One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. A huge malt body is matched to a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruits, and other aromas. Intensely bitter in its early months, the flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages.
Available October-March.

Pours all black with a dark khaki, almost brown head that slowly expands into full as the beer settles. Pretty cool. Aroma is potent, and I must say unique. Raisin and alcohol stand out the most, but there is plenty of chocolate, coffee, and licorice in here as well. Moving on to the taste, it is dominated by the darker impressions. This being chocolate and coffee, while the liquor notes are still strong. This one is is full bodied with a thick, oily texture. The aftertaste is heavy and long lasting with chocolate and raisin. The alcohol content hits you quite quickly. It doesnít hide. For what Iím looking for in this style, this might be close to perfection. I am stingy and I throw 4.5 ratings like theyíre manhole covers. But this is worth it. This might be the best stout Iíve ever had.

Super dark. Raisin smell, with a good thick foam head from a strong pour. Good when temped up, but not a go too. Thick lingering taste that is a solid stout but not to my taste.

The best brew of the night. I couldnít even tell this was an imperial - so smooth and little bite with great chocolate and espresso.

12 ounce bottle, Batch #13592, packaged on 10/23/14. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that stuck around for a while. Thereís also a lot of lacing. I like the aroma a lot, the brew smells like chocolate, dark fruit, molasses, coffee, and roasted malt. I think the taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but thereís also some vanilla noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is full, itís creamy, smooth and a bit coating with moderate carbonation. Itís been years since Iíve had one, but itís still as good as I remember it being. A classic, great stout that I really need to drink more often!

Almost a perfect appearance for a stout … black color and thick foamy dark brown suds. Deliciously smooth feel and heavy notes of chocolate and bark. Stouts like this the best because they don't have that bitter bite. - Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
