4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Abinlp (3) - USA - NOV 18, 2012I’m trying not to gush too much over this beer, it seems suited to my taste buds. It isn’t perfect, but it is so robust, tasteful and well intentioned, I just can’t find much to criticize. It is a typical Bell’s dark beer, meaning a bit on the coarse side. But on this occasion, it’s working to their advantage.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 jonno (2013) - JAPAN - MAY 24, 2013
The fact that this is semi regularly available with wide distribution at a great price makes this a true winner for me. Very refined and blanced as I have noticed seems to be the trend with Bells. Soy sauce and creamy bourbon vanilla vie for attention in the mouth and up the nostrils. Medium bodied with a excellent carbonation level. Rich and dessert like. Fantastic. Glad I have three bottles for the cellar. RERATE. Now I have tried this fresh, with a year on it and three years on it I can attest to the incredible cellarbility of this beer. It gets fuller and more pungent, creating an amazing sipping beer. Huge.

I got a lot of leather taste. Not my favorite, but not bad. Would love to try this aged.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 solidfunk (1824) - Ontario, CANADA - MAY 18, 2013
Amazing beer. Everything comes together in perfection with this imperial stout. Creamy texture - not too syrupy - great head and lacing, black pour. Aroma of pungent roast malt and hops, dark chocolate and light coffee in perfect balance. A little booze but very well hidden, as well as some spiciness in finish. Taste is bittersweet like great chocolate. All of this and it’s super cheap and ubiquitous compared to other beers. I feel like my entire ratebeer career has been waiting for a beer that’s this good, cheap and available at the same time. Bottle, one-year aged thanks to GT2.

Bottle. Black pour with tan head. Chocolate and malt aroma. Chocolate, malt, coffee flavor.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 AZBennett (88) - Chandler, Arizona, USA - MAY 6, 2013
Pours black into the glass with a tan head that is beautiful to watch as it slowly fades leaving nice lacing. Aromas are roast and chocolate with some caramel like sugar hints and touch of leather. Flavors are big roast, creamy cocoa, some booze, bittersweet chocolate and just a touch of coffee. The palate is so thick, rich and strong it coats the palate perfectly. Overall this is an amazing beer, great example of the style and wonderful that it’s available in 12 ounce form when a lot of similar beers only come in 22 ounce bottles. Get it if you can find it.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Jamesthebrit (47) - Greenville, South Carolina, USA - MAY 5, 2013
A: looks good. carbonation is thick and creamy. Looks like ice cream. mmm ice cream.
S: A little boozy. A little creamy. A little chocolate. Alcohol comes through a bit more than other things.
T: A little acidic. Nice chocolaty. Malty. Smooth. Boozy. I mean... a nice stout but nothing crazy.
P: Smooth but a little acidic.
Overall this is a very nice beer. Lots of good characteristics but the acidity cuts through to where it’s thought to enjoy. Creamy mouthfeel though. Definitely worth checking out.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Hopsclation (18) - Chicago, - APR 28, 2013
Wow, this is so badass! Tastes like dark chocolate truffle with plum filling that has been covered in espresso, toffee, and bourbon. It is hopped perfectly so as to give it complexity and bite but not enough to throw off the balance. The only thing that keeps me from giving a perfect rating is the whole soy sauce thing, its definately there and I dont think its a plus. If you like big take no prisoners imperial stouts this has got to be got...
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 tdmuel (84) - South Carolina, USA - APR 28, 2013
Maybe the best looking pour on an imperial stout I’ve ever seen. Opaque pitch black with a large fluffy brown head that doesn’t die down. Huge toasted malt nose, lots of dark earthy chocolate notes, subtle coffee, caramel, a bit of raisins and a little boozy. Taste is massive bitter chocolate, caramel, dark fruit, dark coffee and a hint of alcohol. Full bodied, supberb balance, absolutely delicious.
