Mar 25, 2004 A pitch black beer with a chocolate brown head. The aroma is a little sour, a little smoked, and a littel sweet. The flavor is fantastic; smoked, chocolate, coffee combined with a little sourness. It ends on a note of coffee. The sourness draws down in my overall rating of this beer - so that it is only good in my world.

Very black with no head. Vinous nose with fruit and chocolate. A wall of malt hits me at first sip, then licorice, tar, salt and sensory overload... The finish is full of plums, raisin and hop bitterness. Yikes, this is bitter.

Aug 24, 2005 (Bottle 65 cl) Completely black and opaque with a small, dark brown head. Very burned aroma. Notes of strong, black coffee and bitter chocolate. Extremely full-bodied - this almost pours like tar - lots of burned malt and a dry, burned - again - bitterness. 120805

Nov 12, 2002 Never did have good notes on this beer - until now. I had a 3 year old 1999 vintage: ebony, still. Rich, vinous nose, faint hint of roast, deep fruit (cherry, plums), alcohol. Slippery body. Intense flavours of alcohol, coffee, big rich fruitiness, wine, burnt cherry and Christmas fruitcake. Wow. Vintage Rating: Aroma 9, Appearance 4, Flavour 10, Palate 5, Overall 19 = 4.7

Jun 30, 2007 RBSG07. From bottle. Pours black with a brown head. Aroma is hoppy and and sweet raisin. Flavour is soft malty, chocolate, raisin sweet. Finish is slight bitter on top of the coffee note. Very nice indeed.
