Bottle. [ Courtesy of drewbeerme ] Black color with a small, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, light brown head. Aroma is moderate malty, dark chocolate, mocca / cacao. Flavor is wow .... moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. So good balance ... very very nice. Body is full, texture is creamy / syrupy, carbonation is flat. This is very nice wow .. ;o))
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Ungstrup (23918) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 25, 2004
A pitch black beer with a chocolate brown head. The aroma is a little sour, a little smoked, and a littel sweet. The flavor is fantastic; smoked, chocolate, coffee combined with a little sourness. It ends on a note of coffee. The sourness draws down in my overall rating of this beer - so that it is only good in my world.

(Bottle 65 cl) Completely black and opaque with a small, dark brown head. Very burned aroma. Notes of strong, black coffee and bitter chocolate. Extremely full-bodied - this almost pours like tar - lots of burned malt and a dry, burned - again - bitterness. 120805

Bottled (thanks heemer77). Pitch black opaque colour, mediumsized brown foamy head. Aroma is roasted malts, licorace, coffee, spices, caramel, slight hints of alcohol and a lot of chocolate. A real mindblaster. Flavour is roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, some oak, spices, juniper and burnt sugar. All in a lovely mix. The alcohol shows only in a slightly warming feeling. The aftertaste is smoked wet wood and roasted malts along with smooth chocolate. Absolutely marvellous!

Bottled, thanks hopsrus!!
Very black with no head. Vinous nose with fruit and chocolate. A wall of malt hits me at first sip, then licorice, tar, salt and sensory overload... The finish is full of plums, raisin and hop bitterness. Yikes, this is bitter.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 fiulijn (10383) - Como, ITALY - MAR 30, 2004
Dark brown, green hue. Strong roasted malt nose, turning into something apple-ish; some phenol. Liquid liquorice, followed by a strong coffee and roasted malt wave. Strong, but too much unbalanced, to get a higher note. Thanks Philippe (Bov) for sharing this bottle.
