COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. A huge malt body is matched to a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruits, and other aromas. Intensely bitter in its early months, the flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages.
Available October-March.

Just a nudge more alcohol than I like. Beautiful pour, black with dark tan head. Flavours lie creamy on the whole tongue. Each sip reveals more complex flavour.

12oz bottle. Oh My God. Pour is near perfect. Thin circular head surrounds a dense, almost opaque, pitch black beer. All the elements are there (roasted malt, expresso, chocolate, licorice). The list goes on. A little alcohol heat on the palate .Mouth feel is rich and creamy with lingering bitter dark chocolate. Hard to find anything wrong. Rating scale needs to offer half"s. Would have wanted to give this beer a little more, but not comfortable with whole point on any of my scores. Should have gotten more than one. A year or two in cellar and wow.

Bottle [from trade with mista] @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus, Joes, Martinus, Ansjelaah and Judyvv. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized dark brown head. Aroma is malts, roasted malts, liquorice. After it warms up for about a half hour (since it was pulled out of the fridge) the aroma also gets some liquor, a hint of vanilla and possibly a hint of oak. Taste malts, roasted malts, dry, dark chocolate, bitter, some alcohol. Again, after warming up for quite a while some other flavors come through like vanilla, dark fruits and malt and hop bitter. Full body, suitable carbonation. Good beer for sure, but not one of my ultimate top ones.

Old rating. Bottle from Old Town. Dark black with slight ruby highlights and a thin brown head. Great lacing throughout. Aromas of roasted espresso, cacao nibs, blackstrap molasses, fig, and dried prune. Creamy mouthfeel with a full rich flavor. Full bodied with light carbonation. Cacao and coffee flavors are most pronounced but as it warms up to room temperature more of the dark fruit flavors become evident. Great smooth finish. World class Impy that deserves every bit of the hype that surrounds it.

I don't think this is as great as everyone else does. Bells does great work but I am not in love with it.

Bottle at home while visiting Jacksonville. Bottled 18/09/14. Pours a deep dark brown/black with a slightly pinky tan head. Sweet aroma of candy choc, liquorice, burnt sugar, dark sticky fruit, malty fruit cake... Medium to full body, light to medium carbonation. Big, rich and sticky with soy, teriyaki, dark sticky fruit, treacle, bitter choc, coke, coffee, rum, light grass, light cherry, a little boozy heat. A little harsh maybe... A tasty tipple which makes me keen to try an older bottle. If this was smoother/more rounded/mellower I can imagine it would be knock-out.

Pleasant aromas of coffee, dark malt roast, toffee, espresso, dark earthiness and a slight liquid yeast scent. Appearance is black with a very thin brown foam. Taste is very thick with an extremely heavy black malt characteristic upfront followed by notes of thick chocolate syrup, toffee, coffee roast, roasted malts, burnt caramel, espresso, dry earthy malts and dark wort. Finishes moderately boozy with more roasted malts and coffee roast. Overall, this is a really really nice Imperial Stout with a huge body and complex flavors. A+ rating.

Opaque pitch black with a smallish brown head and very nice viscous lace. Wonderful bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee aromas with rich dark fruit and molasses. Chocolate and coffee stand out in the flavor profile, with subtle contributions from molasses, figs, chicory, booze and smokiness. Beyond full bodied, creamy silky smooth mouthfeel, minimal carbonation, and a decadently lush rich finish.
