One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. A huge malt body is matched to a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruits, and other aromas. Intensely bitter in its early months, the flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages.
Available October-March.

Huge. Slam. Dunk. What an after-school treat in october from the good people of Michigan at Bells. Superb balance. Kinda wish this stuff came out of the tap when I turned on the sink faucet.

Bought September 22, 2015 from a liquor store shelf, bottled February 2, 2015, enjoyed September 23, 2015 in a Hopslam tulip/snifter. Look - Dark black. Very slow to develop a thin tan head. Settled to a ring with light froth laying on top. Speckled lacing. Smell - Coffee. Char. Dark fruit and plum. Licorice. Tootsie roll. Caramel. Light hop. Taste - Char. Hop. Chocolate. Feel - Light heat. No bitterness. Smooth. Heavy mouth feel. Overall - I let this sit on the shelf and finally bit. Liquor store aged. Very nice. I liked Black Note so not surprised I liked this.

After the embarrassment of showing up to a party a day early, I got over it when I shared one of these with a good friend. This, storm king, and old Rasputin are the 3 best ever ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is a premium beer. Picked up two six packs at Harrys in Grand Forks ND. Boy, was I ever glad I did. They must not sell much of this in ND, because it was aged two years. Awesome!

12oz bottle. 2014 vintage. Had/have MANY vintages of this consummate example of the style (’97 is still the best). Great w/10 months on it but better with age. Rich, hoppy, chocolatey goodness! Full+ body and full-carbonation.

Bottle shared by "hannont". Colour...very dark brown with no head. Nose...brown sugar, molasses and dark chocolate. Palate...quite dry and ashen with lots of dark chocolate and burnt sugar. There’s bitterness on the palate and dryness on the finish. This was a 2010 and has held up well!

Mooie zwarte kleur met een goede goudbruine kraag. Ruikt vol, vanille, crème, bitterzoet. Beetje alcohol, chocolade. Smaakt vol, bitterzoet, koffie, vanille, crème. Beetje drop-achtig. Mooie volle bitterzoete nasmaak. Dikke structuur. Fantastisch!

Originally reviewed 3/15/2013. 12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter. Batch 10068, 12/17/2010. Inky viscous black that yields only the slightest tinge of brown at the edges. Not much of a head. Thin khaki collar around the edge with just a lonely dime-sized island of foam roaming the surface. I can smell the molasses from the open bottle. Tons of molasses. A stronger sniff unveils booze, licorice, and ashy burnt malt. Taste is molasses again. Really creamy in the middle with just a little bit of sweetness and then the onslaught begins. Licorice, dark fruits, the darkest chocolate. Burnt pieces of chocolate, really. Ashy and extremely bitter. Booze comes back at the last gasp and bites the throat. Low carbonation, boozy, nearly acrid in its ashy bitterness. And yet it manages to be creamy and delicious. Every complaint I have ever had about fresh Expedition Stout has turned into an attribute in this bottle. Two years has done this very well.

It pours black with a dark brown head. It has aromas of chocolate, coffee, and cocoa. It has a rich, creamy texture with flavors of sweet chocolate, black coffee, and cocoa. It packs a bitter sweet punch on the palate.
