The darkest beer we make; this Imperial stout contains double the malt and five times the hops of our Kalamazoo stout and is perfect for cellaring as its complex character will evolve over time. Available October-March.

12oz bottle, Batch #7205. Oily, dark-dark brown appearance; medium tan head with strong retention at the edges and scattered lacing. Generous aroma: bitter chocolate, marshmallow, and toast. Full, oily mouthfeel showing milk chocolate, charred / burnt malts; citrusy hops still present; hints of dried fruit and vanilla. Long finish: slightly bitter and dry; plenty of dark chocolate and roasted malts. 9.4.9.5.18=4.5

12oz bottle, batch 7251, sample #9 in a blind imperial stout tasting. Pours an oily, dark brown color; minimal medium tan head. Slightly medicinal, nougat, and a hint of alcohol. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of dark sticky malts, burnt malts, chocolate and a yeast character coming through; not sure what to make of this one. Doughiness and bitter chocolate in the finish. 7.4.8.4.15=3.8

12oz bottle, batch 7740, sample #15 in a blind imperial stout tasting. Pours an oily dark brown color; medium tan head with patchy lacing. Pleasant amounts of nougat and toffee in the aroma. Dense, caramel and toffee-driven mouthfeel: nougat, sticky caramel; dried fruits and red fruits as the dominant core characteristic; some roasted and boozy malts. Lengthy, toffee and caramel and nougat in the finish; some chocolate. 7.4.8.4.14=3.7

Thanks to Martha for this delicious beer. Black with a brown creamy head. Coffee chocolate and roasty and floral aroma. Sticky syrupy palate. Sweet very roasty bitter dark chocolate taste with nice cherry notes, juniper berries, and chocolate malt tastes to the finish.

A deep dark black stout with a thin dark brown head, viscous and menacing. A pleasant sweet caramel chocolate with funky creamy character, dried dark fruits, and soy sauce. In mouth, an intense bitter chocolate, coffee, vanilla, warming alcohol and dried fruits, a mother of a stout, with class and clout. Tasted Dec. 2006.

Pours an oil thick black with thick brownish head. Aroma reminded me of soja mixed with chocolat matls. Taste sweet (some vanilla), sugary, very thick and heavy beer. This is close to a meal in a bottle. Mouthfeel of has a good alcohol presence and leaves a nice light coffee aftertaste. Lightly hoppy with some chocoloate bitterness, some barley, malty. A great brew that you want to enjoy slowly and not cold.

Aroma was odd - sometimes a great coffee, chocolate, cararmel smell, but occasionally it would smell horribly of ethanol. The appearance was black, thick, oily, with very little head. Flavor was fantastic - varied flavors emerge and all of them taste dark. Very thick, meal-like beer. Just great.

This beer is fkn big. A monster of malts and hops. Took me over two hours to finish. Blacker than black with average head but outragous lacing. Aroma is of cocoa and chocolate. Taste of intense creamy malts and medium to high hops. Good god!
