Svesse (1621), Hässelby, Sweden Jul 15, 2006 (Bottled, Akkurat, Stockholm, 14 July) Colour is opaque black with a huge, dense, dark brown head (the head actually looks like chocolate pudding). What a beauty! Nose is overwhelming: intense, roasted, with chocolate, liquorice, coffee, tar, hints of smoke, salt, hazel nuts. I’m almost content just sitting and nosing this for about half an hour. Taste is roasted, full of liquorice, dark bitter chocolate, dried fruit, coffee, tar, syrup, with hints of juniper berries and dark cherries. A bit sweet, but just enough. There is an immense bitter hoppiness here as well, but since this is so comlex and wonderfully balanced it doesn’t dominate as much as it would in most brews. Body is full (or rather immense), might order a spoon to eat it with. The fantastic taste and full body even mask the alcohol level. This is an absolute beauty and a true masterpiece, this is getting very close to perfection in my taste. Hopefully I will never find the perfect beer (because as Lemmy and Motorhead sang: the chase is better than the catch - although that was not really about beer), but I can be happy with this one for a while.
NJJereme (116), Saint Petersburg, Florida, USA Aug 18, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark brown/black color with a very light brown head. Aroma explodes with the scent of dark chocolate and espresso with a hint of cherry on the end. Heavily bodied, almost liking drinking a meal. Finishes bitter like an espresso. An extraordinarily intense and delicious beer. blipp (683), Grand Island, New York, USA Aug 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours very near black with a tan head. Roasted aroma with loads of coffee, wood and a bit of cherry like fruit. Flavor starts sweet with caramel, cherry, and dark chocolate, then moves to coffee and wood, and finished on the roasted coffee that is present throughout with some additional hoppy bitterness. Incredible. AndyReynolds (41), Wilder, Kentucky, USA Aug 15, 2008 Poured a very very dark brown with a thin brown head. Aroma was strong with coffee and chocolate, with a little bit of hops in there. The taste has a sweet start with a stong cofee-bitter finish. The palate was syrupy and coated the throat on its way down. This is an excellant beer, but not an everyday drink. tdaglow (7), USA does not count Aug 15, 2008 Hops wonderful Hops. I opened one from the cellar that I’d had since Jan and WOW...I don’t know what else there is to say that hasn’t arleady been said. bretupdegraff (32), , Indiana, USA Aug 14, 2008 Wow - so much flavor from such a small bottle of beer!
