COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. A huge malt body is matched to a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruits, and other aromas. Intensely bitter in its early months, the flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages.
Available October-March.

Black pour with a foamy tan head that persists. Aroma of molasses, coffee, toffee and a whiff of spice. Initial flavor of chocolate and dark fruit quickly followed by a substantial lingering bitterness. Thick mouthfeel with subdued carbination. Noticeable astringency and ethanol heat. An excellent stout that should mellow and gain complexity as it ages. A stout to brood over.

Bottle (bottled on 11/06/15). Pours a dark body with a medium tall tan head. Aroma has hoppy/tarry notes of dark chocolate and dark malts. Thick mouthfeel. Sweet and roasty taste with dark cocoa and licorice, finish is hoppy and warming. It reminds me of Founders Imperial Stout but the level of complexity is not quite up there - it feels like this one has less layers and the hopping is more robust. Also, the alcohol presence is a touch more visible (although they are both 10,5 %). It only lacks the "wow" factor of it’s fellow Michigander. Other than that, it’s still a solid textbook example of a classic Imperial Stout.

Bottle shared. Black with small beige head. Lots of dark chocolate, oats, molasses, some bitter coffee, dried leaves, lots of roasted notes with some licorice. Medium sweet and bitter. Full bodied with creamy feel. Great classic imperial stout, nicely balanced.

What a beer! 9 months old. Aroma of rich roasted malt, tons of dark fruit, coffee, and sweet chocolate. Incredible smooth taste of heavily roasted malt, sweet chocolate, brown sugar, and coffee. Mild coffee like bitterness. Huge thick coating mouthfeel. The taste lingers on the palate. Alcohol only present slightly with warming in the chest. World class. Typically I don't like RIS's but this one is incredible. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Amazing beer that ages well. This was a 2 year old bottle. Very smooth with great chocolate flavors. Full of rich stout characteristics without being overly heavy.

Flaska från Mikkeller Webbshop. Smak och doft av kaffe, choklad, vanilj, rostade toner, lakrits och karamell. Fin sötma, rund och len, bra balans mellan aromerna som avslutas med en fin beska.

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2016 From bottle, pour is dark syrupy thick and black in color. Sitting atop the beer the head is chocolate brown. The aroma is initially alcohol and dark chocolate there are further notes of coffee and a bright herb. The taste is alcohol initially followed by a milk chocolate taste and sweetness, then bitter dark chocolate and coffee. The body of the beer is very smooth with a medium to thick mouthfeel. Overall this beer is a very good stout has a strong alcohol body with very good coffee and chocolate flavors throughout the beer.
