COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the earliest examples of the Russian Imperial Stout in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with vintage aging in mind, as its profile will continue to mature and develop over the years. A huge malt body is matched to a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruits, and other aromas. Intensely bitter in its early months, the flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages.
Available October-March.

Bottle purchased from beer store in Orlando. Happy this one survived the flight back to Jersey. This stout pours thick and black with no head except for a small brown ring around my glass. The aroma is big malt, vanilla, roasted nuts, and alcohol. At first taste the alcohol was evident up front with some bitter coffee bean which mellowed out through the finish. Dark chocolate and dark fruits also well incorporated. The hop flavor is slightly present and nice in this one. All these flavors combined and balanced make one harmonious stout. Nice creamy mouthfeel with a bit of afterburn from the alcohol.

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2016 Bottle at home. Pitch black colour with a medium, fast disappearing brown head. Nose of cocoa powder and slight roasted malts. Taste is medium to high bitzerness, also cocoa with some roasted malts. Some alcoholic warmth bit very well hidden. Silk smooth mouthfeel with just perfect carbonation. Wow.

Bottle from Beer Gonzo. Very dark brown with a lovely brown sugar coloured head. Doesn’t retain it for long. Body is full, creamy rather than oily, with the alcohol providing some chilli- like burn. More to the aroma than just coffee; I get figs, soy, dark chocolate, roasted malt and nut brittle. Flavour has lots of dark chocolate along with some licquorice and something slightly sweeter. Finish is hugely bitter, with lingering dark chocolate and coffee.

A pitch black beer, a head is small and dark brown. Aroma has liquirice, salt liquirice, riped fruitness and plums, sweetness, richness of malts. Taste is very intensive, roastiness, salt liquirice, coffee, some salt, balanced sweetness. Full bodied, not stickyness, low carbonation, smooth palate. Very powerful and intensive. The great and complex beer.

Bottle at home. Thick brown super stable head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts, liquorice, soy sauce. Taste is cocoa, sharp bitter, bit of coffee, roastey malts, alcoholic. Needed some sips to start liking the beer. Well balanced and a very good imperial stout... Not getting why this is the 13th best beer worldwide though? Would like to try this aged!
