Draft at Maduro. Hazy unfiltered golden tan. Very nice, rich and sugary, bodl malt tones. Rich, full body. Chewy caramel and orange, really big on the palate...but not overwhelming. Very well executed, smooth and easy drinking. Sweet..balanced.

Light, clear, orange-copper with good, foamy, off-white head / Very soft, mellow nose of rye, resin, and spun sugar / Medium body, some sweetness, lush with some hop bite, and good, bitter finish / Mellow, creamy flavors of rye, bread, spun sugar, grapefruit, orange, and resin / A superb, easy drinker.

750mL Bottle. Thanks Sean! I found this to be fantastic. It was the most delicate, subtle nuanced beer of the evening and one of the few that I said, "of all the beers I’ve had tonight, this is one of the few that I really crave to have again." Spicy, fresh, and with a load of pale malt complexity. This really sings of spring earth. There’s a real farm quality to this. Growing grasses, early fall, and ripeness. I just love the grain complexity and the subtle off-play of hops. Very, very nice.

On tap at a Bell’s tap takeover. Crisp golden pour with some lacing but no real head. Not sure I could really detect any rye on the nose. Kind of a dull grassy hop taste. The rye tastes a bit burt. Dry hoppy finish. A bit disappointing but drinkable.

Butters (3013) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - FEB 26, 2012
Sampled at Brewvival 2012. Clear amber decent white head. Pilsnerish aroma. Sweet rye with some butter and some citrus bitterness on the tail and it lingers. Good, not great.

On tap. Small White head, golden clear color. Slight rye spiciness. Slight citrus hops favorite mixes well with the rye. Good.

From notes. First reviewed 7/14/2009. On tap at the Eccentric Cafe. Golden Rye pours a cloudy golden straw color with a light head and not much carbonation. Rye malt with a twist of citrus hit the nose, although there is not that strong of an aroma on this one. Up front there is a very light grainy malt presence, with obvious rye flavor. The hops have a citrus kick to them. A crisp feel from the carbonation, but also grainy feel from the malt. The rye really makes its presence felt in the graininess, despite the lighter color and feel. There is definitely some nice hop relief here, although I generally enjoy bigger beers. I would like it better if it had a deeper flavor.

TheAlum (3293) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - FEB 15, 2012
Sampler pour on tap at the brewpub (Kalamazoo, MI). Pours a rich haze rich orange glowing hue, golden edges glow with a healthy haze and frothy whitish head, laces ok overall. Aromas are fairly clean, gentle earthy florals and touches of gentle lemony hops. Touch of grass, bready malts and rye clean up a bit. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied offering dry florals, earth, and gentle lemony hops. Dried up a bit, into the middle getting a bit dough, bread, touches of rye show their light. Backend shows drier hops, some flaked wheat, gentle dry malts, bread, and gentle spice from the hops. A touch of orange, mellow sweetness and dry earthy hops. Clean yet with a touch of girth. Solid beer that bring some more earthy hops into the finish as we get there and it warms.

Dogbrick (4828) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - FEB 12, 2012
Sample at the brewpub. This brew is a clear orange-gold color with a medium white head that evaporates steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Grainy malt and hops in the nose. Medium body with flavors of resiny hops, sweet malt and rye. The finish is mildly hoppy with a grainy aftertaste. Decent overall.
