3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Kind of sounds more serious that it tastes or looks. Pours a nice dark brown with a frothy white head. Very tasty with a nutty vanilla. Spices are not overwhelming and I could just give the standard nutmeg and cinnamon answer but not so sure about that as something just tastes a bit different. Full bodied with some carbonation. This is very drinkable it is not a “winter warmer”.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Cappy’s, served in a flight. This is one I’d been intrigued by for a long time after seeing the picture of the old bottle, but never expected to see. Fun to see it on draft again after all these years. Anyway, it pours a deep brown with amber highlights and a small khaki head that settles into a ring and film, leaving trailing lace in the glass. Notes of toasted sugar, cocoa, roasted malts, nutmeg, earth, tobacco, maple, ginger, and molasses. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a roasty, spicy, sweet mouthfeel that also hits the umami notes. Not sure it should be in the S/H/V category, honestly, but deserves stout categorization.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at abv. Pours a pure black color with a medium beige head. A big spicy cherry nose. The flavor is big sweet berries, licorice, chocolate, some roast. The spices come across as almost sour cherry pits. Solid.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a dark brown with a mahogany hue when held up to the light. The head is respectable as is the lace.
The aroma is roasty with some ginger and potpourri. It’s got a nice coffee like character and a light sweetness.
The flavor is nicely bitter & roasty with some coffee like flavors and some vanilla. The ginger is pretty dominant really and the beer comes off a touch boozy, but it’s tasty for sure.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I don’t know about retirement for this beer, as it seems to make appearances here and there. Such as at a small stout festival in Covington, KY, on tap.
Appearance: Your standard stout, a dark brown verging on black, with a decent tan head.
Smell: Here’s where things start to get interesting. It’s a stout, and so one would expect roasty malt, coffee, perhaps some chocolate - and nope. Pure spice wafts out of the glass, a wave of ginger, cinnamon, and clove, with some faint herbal undertones. Somewhere under that, like supporting arches beneath a bridge, hang subtle odors of roasted malt and lightly roasted coffee.
Taste: This stout drinks in layers, opening with a rush of pure ginger wreathed in smoke, before blackstrap sweetness begins to filter in. The molasses brings cinnamon and ground clove flavors along with it, swirling about before yielding in turn to a light coffee, mixed with brown sugar and nutmeg. Spice is prominent in every phase, including a lingering ginger-cinnamon taste after the swallow.
Mouthfeel: Closer to medium-bodied than full, this is oddly refreshing for a stout.
Overall: A curiosity I would repeat, given the chance. Well done, Bell’s.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma of smokey roasted malt and a molasses like coffee as well. Taste is the same with a bit of a spiciness to the finish. Lots of flavor, some odd, but nothing bad about this beer. Just some odd flavors and not sure they all go together, so can't bump the rating up. Makes me think smokey Porter with spicy finish if that is your thing.
