After passing this one over many-a-time, today I decided to give it a try and I left feeling quite pleased although I’m sure the 9% the Fury packs helped me out. The beer poured an opaque black with a creamy, inviting tan head which faded to a small ring around the glass. The initial smell is roasted malts and coffee. At first the taste followed and then a cola-like sweetness developed about half way through. Not as thick as some of the others like Expedition (mmm!), but still a solid body on this one. The cola flavor also became evident in the smell as did a tangy sour extension to the roastiness. This probably won’t replace any of my fallbacks, but was a nice change of pace today.

Flavor has some of the same... its well put together. Smokey berries, some woody honey. Some wheaty and fruity malt. Not much of a abbey ale by my definition, but its a good version of one for sure. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 28, 2007 From a 12 oz. bottle with a short blurb and batch number 7673, packaged on Oct/11/2006, on the back label, sampled at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
Poured a syrupy blackish brown with a tight foamy tan head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing, minimal amount of laced sticking.
Aromas of dark berries, earthy coffee, hints of sweet caramel and burnt chocolate, nutty and softly spicy, and whiffs of medicinal alcohol.
Moderate carbonation and a softly malty crisp, dryish, creamy medium bodied mouthfeel.
Roasted malty taste, roasted light coffee, caramelized sugar and milk chocolate, a hint of smoky, toasted nuts, a sweet berry fruitiness, a soft spiciness with a pinch of pepper, a warming medicinal alcohol the stays in the background, and a dry salty, fruity, roasted malty finish.
Another unique offering from Bell’s, not one of my favorites, but worth trying. jetzler (622), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA

Sweetness, thats almost cloying but not to prevalent, its balanced against spicy yeasts with plenty of pepper and clove. Roasted grains are quite prevalent. Hops have a slight degree of bitterness.
