SSSteve (2052), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 20, 2009 12oz bottle. black with a large frothy brown head. strong, dry, roasted coffee aroma. milky, creamy palate especially when warm. the flavors is robust with a dry bitter coffee, lightly sweetened with chocolate to balance out the bitter coffee beans. full body. definitely one of the better coffee stouts. awiseman01 (339), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Nov 20, 2009 Bottle from Crown#6, shared with Brother Eric. Pours pitch black with brown edge and quick fading tan head. Nose is strong pleasant coffee beans over roasted malt. Flavor is bitter smooth black coffee with some slight roasted malt and chocolate hints. If you’re an avid black coffee drinker like myself, you will LOVE this beer. Slightly acidic and carbonated in mouthfeel. Excellent brew! Hopper (295), San Antonio, Texas, USA Nov 19, 2009 Batch 8375. A black beer with little to no head. The aroma was coffee as was the taste. The mouthfeel was slightly creamy & is a good coffee beer. I’d rather not think about it since this is a good beer that we may never get in TX since Bell’s has no plans to come here. CheersMate1 (784), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 18, 2009 12 oz. bottle from Mac’s on West Peachtree. Nice off-white chocolate head that fades away rather quickly. Nice black body, and opaque. Looks good to me. Pungent coffee bean and slight milk aroma as well; very pungent beer. Coffee roast flavor is awesome. This beer has a lovely coffee smell. The beer did not look as smooth as it is during the pour. It is actually very smooth. I am surprised by the texture. Coffee flavor is very much in your face. Very big roast flavor. Coffee flavor is great, but it doesn’t allow for other flavors to come through, but when you call a beer "Java Stout", what do you expect? A great coffee beer. I am very pleased that this beer finally made it to Georgia. Pawola22 (704), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Nov 18, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a black body with a thin, brown head that dissipates immediately and leaves a light lacing. Aroma is packed with dryer coffees. Some dark chocolate and milk chocolate add a nice sweetness, but this is clearly all about the coffee. Flavor is more the same and very bold. Lots of coffee greets the palate along with a rich and milky, dark chocolate. A light nutty molasses comes in during the middle along with more coffee and chocolate. Finishes with a good amount of woody bitterness along with some roasts to dry this fairly quickly. Lots of bittersweet chocolate and coffee make up a lengthy aftertaste. Medium to full body, smooth, and slightly syrupy. Overall, this is a really nice coffee stout. The coffee is clearly the dominant flavor, but there is still a nice chocolate malt backing and a solid bitter finish. Really nice. tennisjoel (936), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Nov 17, 2009 12 oz bottle. Dark black opaque pour with an average tan colored head. Obvious coffee dominated aroma, but I also get notes of tobacco, nuts, and cardboard. Flavor is quite bitter, but not offputting by any means. The cardboard luckily does not show itself in the flavor. The flavor of this beer is much better than the odd aroma. I do get more chocolate notes when tasting. I can see some similarities to Founders Breakfast Stout, but overall it’s not nearly as well put together. TheJester (700), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Nov 15, 2009 330 mL bottle. Almost black with little head. Aroma is almost all coffee, with a little roast and cola. Flavour also - lotsa lotsa coffee. Soft finish, perhaps due to the low carbonation. Body actually thins as it warms!? Good, but it’s no Peche Mortel. madmitch76 (493), , Essex, England Nov 15, 2009 22nd July 2008. This is not a subtle coffee beer but it is a good one. The sumatran coffee is slightly sweet but retains it’s character. There is also some repressed fruit in the finish. Not too bitter.
