Very dark brown color with a tan head. Dark burned on the bottom of the coffee pot aroma. Sharp coffee flavors. I think I need to warm this one up and add some cream. Not a bad brew, just not my cup of joe.

UPDATED: OCT 24, 2003 (Bells Brickskeller 10/03) Dark dark brown with mocha head. Aroma is RICH coffee. Taste is medium sweet coffee coffee, light grapefruit that's more noticeable in the swallow. Grapefruit adds a dimension of depth to what otherwise would be a fairly straightforward coffee beer. Medium/full creamy body. (7/4/8/5/16) (Bells Brickskeller 11/02) Black as pitch, with nice tan head. Aroma is mocha -- coffee bitter but also chocolate. Flavor is coffee coffee coffee, with some sweetness. (7/4/7/3/14)

To be blunt, I just don’t like coffee at all, so it’s largely my fault for trying a beer with the word "java" in it. It’s dark. It’s smells like coffee. I don’t mean "kind of like coffee", it smells like COFFEE. The taste, not particularly surprisingly, is of COFFEE. TOO MUCH COFFEE. I swear, drink a pint of this and you won’t sleep for hours.

with little to medium head and a light tan head that leave a nice lacey finish. on the palate leaves a strong coffee flavor that doesn’t readily leave the mouth. not a beer to slam or drink more than two or three.

A bitter, coffeeish concoction, typically Bell’s in the monster mouthfeel...roasty and warming, a good one to have on hand.

Shockingly good. Like a really fine stout with a shot of espresso. Overwhelming coffee flavor, with roasty and chocolatey notes, and a good solid bitterness as well. Great label too.

Wow - this is an exotic jungle trip into several hearts of darkness, the smell of napalm in the morning and all. I don’t like everyplace I end up, like the stop in the sesame oil tar pits, but so much else is gorgeous, like the roasted nuts and jazzed up, spicy expresso action.
