3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Rando7 (448) - Iowa, USA - JAN 27, 2011
Bottle pours medium-thick almost black with one finger tan head. Very nice coffee aroma. Taste strongly coffee, everything else secondary but also with some roast and chocolate. medium finish of roast. Thick palate without being syrupy. Alcohol disguised.
I like coffee stouts but this one doesn’t have much except the coffee. Would be helped by a better balance.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 PhillyCraft (195) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 25, 2011
Bottle. 12 oz. Pours a deep, dark, insidious black with a bold, amber head, which recedes into a slight lace across the surface. Aroma of pure, fresh coffee beans, dark chocolate, bitter hops, dry malts, wheat, roast and hints of marshmallow. Full, but not overwhelming, body. Sturdy, insanely tart and bitter palate. Finishes with a slow, meandering, mellow warming in the throat and through the belly. Outstanding, excellent stout.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 wlajwl (1482) - Iowa, USA - JAN 25, 2011
Very strong coffee taste to it, almost couldn’t tell that it was a stout. Very good choice for someone who likes coffee, but I don’t, but it was still good anyway.

Review from notes, sampled 1/11/2008
Received this in a trade with Jay23, thanks for the opportunity.
Pours a solid black that no light gets through. Average pour almost overflowed my glass with head. We’ve got some carbonation in suspension here. Aroma is overwhelming with coffee. I also pick up some dried fruits and a bit of chocolate. If there was steam coming out of my glass I would think it was a flavored coffee. Taste is more roasted coffee bitterness with some creamy chocolate mixed into the fold. Creamy mouthfeel with a coffee bitterness in the finish. Solid double stout with coffee added. Another great beer from Bell’s.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 AR (685) - Georgia, USA - JAN 21, 2011
Mild coffee aroma with a small head. Flavor is a mild coffee and a mild dark chocolate that are well blended. Full-bodied and very smooth.

Pour is black with a nice tan head, and apparent decent carbonation. Nose is of sweet coffee. Taste is very much the same with a nice roasty taste as well.

12oz bottle poured into pint, great frothy head, aroma of burnt coffee, a bit sweet, taste is nice sweet coffee, not a lot of malty complexity but I’m loving the coffee. One of the nicest session stouts I’ve tried. Another great brew from Bells.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 birderbeerer (112) - Virginia, USA - JAN 14, 2011
Deep brown, mahogany, moving to black. Two finger tan head. Light but irregular lace.
Aroma is all coffee. It smells like a cup of strong, black coffee and only that. I like strong, black coffee, so I’m excited, but the scent alone could turn some people away.
Taste is the same. This beer is as advertised--coffee all the way. Rich, strong coffee flavor. Balanced well on the back end with sweet malts, which keep the coffee flavor from being overwhelmingly dry. This is a coffee beer in a major way, though. Bit of a dry finish, especially as it warms. But overall, there is a balance of faint caramel and toast flavor to tone down the coffee roast.
I love coffee and that’s what this beer is. But it stays safely within drinkable bounds. But for those who sugar up their coffee in the morning, this stout will be too offensive.
