4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 BigMike (45) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 28, 2010
APPEARANCE: Poured into a tulip. Black with no sign of any highlights. Head is big and creamy and a roasted hazelnut color. About three fingers worth. It coats the sides of the glass like no other.
SMELL: If you like the smell of coffee then you’ll love the smell of this. Fresh ground coffee with some light chocolate notes as well and roasted malts.
TASTE: Not surprisingly this one tastes like coffee. Coffee up front and coffee on the finish. Not overpowering but just right. In the middle theres some light chocolate as well.
MOUTHFEEL: Smooth and easy to drink. Light carbonation. A somewhat dry finish.
DRINKABILITY: I love coffee and stouts so it’s obvious that i’m a fan of coffee stouts. This is very tasty and definitely i could drink a couple of these. I recommend this if you’re into this style of beer.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 flatmatt (737) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - JAN 24, 2010
12 oz bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Has a strong aroma that is completely dominated by roasted coffee. Flavor is mostly coffee as well, with a significant bitterness from it, but lacks the richness of the aroma. Creamy, roasty finish.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Acetobacter (816) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 24, 2010
Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in a pub glass. The beer pours an opaque black color, with a moderate tan head that lasts in some form throughout the entire beer’s consumption. The nose gives strong hints of coffee grounds, with some underlying roasted malt notes, and perhaps just a touch of alcohol. The palate carries the marks of dark roasted coffee up front. Roasted malt character follows, more aggressively than similar offerings from Founders and Terrapin, but not to the point that it destroys the palate. Moderate bitterness follows, but again not to the extent that hop-derived bitterness or flavor detracts from the beer’s other qualities. The finish is clean and neutral. Overall, an excellent interpretation.

Good balance between the flavor of a stout and the coffee. The coffee is not to overwheleming, would prefer a better tasting coffee though.

Can you say heaven is a glass? This beer is now my all time favorite. Rich and roasty like a stout should be but with an incredible coffee taste. Pours a black opaque color with a thick tan head. Good lacing on the glass. Thank you Bell’s for coming to Arizona. Buy this beer if you can find it.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 sandberglar (148) - Scottsdale, USA - JAN 21, 2010
Coffee lovers rejoice! This is your beer! This one pours a black with a small brown head. An assault of burnt/roasted coffee beans hits the nostrils with this one. Full body, tastes like chocolate, roasted coffee, and has a light bitter finish. A VERY tasty stout indeed.
