3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 zer0crew (119) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 19, 2010
Bottle. Pours deep brown (basically black) with a nice 1+ inch of head that disipates to a film. Beautiful lacing going on. Aroma is of almost burnt coffee. Very long, complex finish on this guy. Very satisfying and tastes feels very warm, regardless of the temperature served.

UPDATED: JUN 26, 2010 The buzz and licking beneath the area of the tongue comes to a great functional matter as this dives into a whole sweet place to be with the fact of having tastebuds!
Updated from a 3 year aged bottle: Damn! This retains it’s goodness, but mellowed out beautifully. Blended flavors, velvety smooth, and still bitterly coffeed the F out! Yum!
4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20 greencatfish (18) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 18, 2010
Most coffee stouts tend to have some of a coffee smell then a coffee taste this one does not follow that norm. On first smell I had to check to make sure I was not sitting in Starbucks. Smell is unreal of coffee kind of like a moca blend. Now on to the taste OMG unreal what a blend off coffee and roasted malt. The coffee is by far the leading favor in this beer. I would suggest you be a coffee drinker to take on this one. By far the best coffee stout I have had in years.
12 oz bottle 16 oz pint glass
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 GranvilleTim (955) - Granville, Illinois, USA - JAN 15, 2010
Batch 9462. So glad to see this in the Illinois Valley. Dark pour with a brown head. Aroma of roasted coffee. Taste was wonderful. A perfect marriage of two of my favorite things- stout and coffee. Coffee added some bitterness to the end, but it worked out nice overall.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 mtoast (336) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 14, 2010
I’d offer a formal review on this batch 9562 bottle of beer, but this is now the 3rd time I’ve had type how black it poured with light brown foam that exhibits decent retention and fantastic lacing. The first time I tried to express how the coffee was pretty much the sole aroma, the Bell’s website crashed my browser a couple hundred time while I tried to figure out when this beer with some serious malt that nicely complements the somewhat acrid coffee flavors was bottled. Once I gave up on that endeavor, Steve Jobs decided that I had simultaneously hit some magically sequence of keys that deleted the entire rating where I gushed about how glad I was to see this beer back in rotation.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Gachupines (471) - USA - JAN 14, 2010
Appearance is black with a tan head. Aroma is strong coffee, almost, but not quite burnt. Flavor is also overwhelming coffee taste, also a little burnt in the finish. Slight chocolate flavor as well, a little bittersweet. Overall, this beer can be a little overpowering, but if you like strong coffee taste definitely check it out.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 Brewbie (349) - New York, USA - JAN 11, 2010
12oz bottle. dark pour with a fluffy tan, lasting head, nice lacing. great aroma of coffee and roast. the coffee isn’t as out front as i thought it might be from the aroma, just a nice solid taste of black coffee, roast, bit of chocolate. not overpowering at all. mmmm coffee and beer....
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 rabba9 (115) - Chaska, Minnesota, USA - JAN 10, 2010
Bottle pours a near black with a thin tan head. Strong aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee. Heavy bodied with coffee flavor dominating but not overpowering in taste, with chocolate, roasted malt, and caramel flavors present as well. Very enjoyable Stout with coffee notes dominating but not overpowering this complex beer.
