Commercial Description:
The satisfying elements of both stout and coffee come together in this full-bodied treat. A marriage of Sumatra's best with rich chocolate and roasted malt provides for a truly enlightening beer.

Can’t believe I am just getting a chance to try this bellweather bells beer. Exceptional roasted malt flavors. Aroma of roasted coffee. Flavors of bittersweet chocolate, and rich coffee bean. The finish is slighlty bitter and acidic with a medium body. The taste is the corresponding sense you get when you walk into a coffee shop and they are grinding beans and brewing a fresh pot at the same time. That aroma of roasted bean just floors you. Translate that aroma to taste and that’s what this beer is. Oh yeah, thanks to eithcubes for the first in hopefully a number of trades.

Another winner from bells... pours black, with a mocha latte head that sticks around for most of the glass. Aroma is delicious smelling... coffee with dark chocolate. The coffee flavors really bring out the chocolate flavors of the stout. This would be a great breakfast beer! Or after dinner. I’m not sure this would be a session beer of any sort, but it is a winner all around.

pours a very opaque black with a tan head that lingers slightly... Aroma of bitter chocolate... Taste of dark roasted bitter coffee with a hint of sweet chocolate... If all coffee tasted like this.... This is waaaayyyyy too easy to drink for a 7.5% stout...

on tap at kelly’s. poured opaque black with a thick tan head that faded slowly and left some lacing here and there. huge bitter coffee aroma, maybe some dark berries hiding in the background, then some coffee came out some more, and i could smell a bit more coffee. big roasty coffee flavor, with some cocoa, vanilla, and cherry notes. a bit more coffee flavor, as well. fairly bitter, as one might expect, some sweetness in there as well, good silky mouthfeel, lots of carbonation. there certainly was a lot of coffee flavor. as i’m not a coffee drinker, it was all a bit overdone for me. i much prefer mikkeller beer geek breakfast, and founders breakfast. not horrible, just not for me.

If you had a six pack of the Java you’d be buzzed and hyper all at the same time. The coffee taste though listed as Sumatra must have been roasted darker than a Sumatran coffee is usually roasted. If you’re looking for a stout with a coffee taste, BAM here’s the Java Stout from good old Bell’s.

12oz bottle. Drank luke warm which may have affected the review. Sweet bold coffee taste paired with a strong solid malt backround. Color was black as can be. smokey

Can’t decide on the after dinner drink: coffee or a rich stout...this one is both. Both tastes come out evenly making this an instant favorite. The color is dark opaque black and the bitterness of the coffee bean combined with the rich roasted stout comes across nice - not too strong

Poured a very dark, opaque brown into a snifter. 2 finger cocoa colored head leaves some decent lacing and reduces to a thin cap on top of the beer. Very chocolatey aroma, some notes of coffee and a biscuity oaty note. Mainly coffee in the taste, backed up by chocolate syrup flavors as well as that biscuity note from the smell. Similar to Terrapin’s Wake-n-Bake. The body here is kinda flimsy for a stout. Carbonation is fine, no alcohol taste. Easy to drink.
