The satisfying elements of both stout and coffee come together in this full-bodied treat. A marriage of Sumatra's best with rich chocolate and roasted malt provides for a truly enlightening beer.

Bottle from Maltitude. Pours dark black with brown head. Aroma of espresso, roasted malts, and chocolate. Taste is very strong of coffee and roasted malts. Like drinking warm, alcoholic coffee. Heavy bodied. Very good.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass. Pours a wonderful opaque esspresso color with almost no head. Very faint coffee and malt aroma. Exceptional coffee and malty taste with a perfect chocolatey smoothness. My first stout and very impressed.

12oz bottle into tulip. Appearance: oily black. Small brown rim of head. Aroma: espresso, roasted malts, chocolate. Taste: dry and mildly bitter upfront. Long chocolate finish. Palate: medium body. Frothy texture. Long dry finish. Overall: really nice beer. The aroma is fantastic. A little lacking in body.

Poured from bottle after cellaring for 2 years. Opaque, brown-black with a 3-finger khaki head and very good lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee, molasses, roasted malt, chocolate syrup and plums. Taste of dark roasted coffee, chocolate syrup, burnt coffee beans and barley, vanilla and a touch of dark fruit. Medium/full body and medium carbonation with a very nice mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a bottle. Pours very dark brown with a fizzy tan head. Tastes like dark roasted coffee beans, roasted malt, light vegetable, syrupy chocolate, very rich. Medium body and low carbonation. Smells like rich chocolate, roasted coffee beans, light spice, and charred vegetables.

Bottle. Pours deep, dark brown with creamy tan head. Aroma is espresso, roasted malts, chocolate, faint vanilla, and faint plums. Flavor is dry roast malts, rich chocolate, smooth espresso, faint earthy notes, and some dark fruit sweetness. Medium body and carbonation.

Ridiculously intense dark-roasted coffee beans completely dominate, but somehow it works. A little chocolate takes some of the edge out. Finishes long and bitter.

Aroma, aside from the obvious coffee, has charred malt, ash, slight brown sugar, and sweet bread, like a cinnamon roll without the cinnamon. Some piney hops which are barely detectable. Taste matches the aroma, and is surprisingly more balanced than the aroma would suggest. Hops are more present in the taste than the aroma. Mouthfeel is slick and oily. The palate is medium with a very long, bitter finish that, at the end, sweetens a bit to balance it out. This is very comparable to Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast, but I prefer this. Great beer by a great brewery.

Bottle. Pours a black color with off white head. Black coffee grounds, burnt toast, roasty aromas. Coffee grounds, burnt, roasty, malty sweet flavors. There are a lot of breweries that do a coffee stout and a lot of times it is pretty good because coffee flavors meld well with stout flavors. But there are few beers that really go above and beyond and define the style. This is one of those beers for coffee stouts.

Fresh bottle. Aroma is a big punch of deep, roasted coffee. A touch of caramel/cocoa. Taste is smooth and deep coffee flavor with some toffee/caramel notes. Thick and velvety mouthfeel. Hard to believe it’s only 7.5% ABV. One of the better, low ABV coffee stouts out there.
