The satisfying elements of both stout and coffee come together in this full-bodied treat. A marriage of Sumatra's best with rich chocolate and roasted malt provides for a truly enlightening beer.

12 oz bottle poured. Near black, brown pour with a tan foam head. Coffee bean aroma. Flavor is chocolate, coffee and cream, bold roast finish. Top of the line coffee stout. These guys get it. Awesome.

Bottle. A: Perfectly black with fluffy, foamy mocha head. N: Pure espresso mixed with rich dark cocoa. Heavy roast and a woodsy profile. Very earthy. Some lactose and burnt brown sugar. Ample dark roasted malts. T: Decently bitter and sweet, in proportion. M: Medium body, creamy carbonation, no alcohol. O: A fine quaff. Not quite a chocolate covered espresso bean like the best of them, but certainly an earthier coffee profile that fits the base beer like a glove.

12oz bottle from total wine and spirits. Black with small tan head. The bottle I just bought might have been a bit old. Roasted coffee and chocolate nose. Nice aroma. Chocolate coffee then some roasty malt. Finishes a bit flat and metallic. Solid body, medium creaminess. Flavor just doesn’t carry through like I’d hope.

Where: Old Line Fine Wine Spirits & Bistro. How: 12 ounce bottle. Appearance: pours black with a thick foamy tan head with excellent retention. Aroma: roasted coffee, burnt chocolate, cocoa. Taste: Roasted coffee and unsweetened cocoa, followed by sweet milk chocolate. Palate: medium bodied and smooth. Overall: very good roasted stout, good for anytime, especially winter.

Aroma of black coffee, oak and roasted malt. A bit one-note, but nice. Looks great - Midnight black with the slightest amount of light tan foam. Taste is strong coffee bitterness with undertones of roast, cream, oak and vanilla. Underwhelming palate. Good beer, but I could use more. A thicker palate and higher ABV would help. The coffee just overpowers everything.

355ml bottle bottled 09/11/14. Pours a near black with a thin tan head that thins to a ring. Aroma has big, smooth notes of roasted malts, coffee, nut shells, dark chocolate, and traces of caramel. Taste is balanced with lots of cold-pressed coffee, dark roasted malts, chocolate, slight dark fruits, and an espresso bitter ending. Medium-full body with a medium carbonation. Clean in the mouth with a bone dry finish. Overall a really nice coffee beer. Still lots of coffee with smooth roast. Highly recommended.

12 ounce bottle from Bine & Vine, purchased 14 months ago ($3.49). "Packaged 09/11/14." POURS dark brown (almost black) with a half finger of brown foam. AROMA of rough-ground dark coffee, roasted and lightly smoky malts, roasted nuts, with some fading chocolate. FLAVOR mainly of strong coffee (creamy espresso-laden cafe au lait comes to mind), with additional notes of vanilla, creamy chocolate, and Kahlua (though this is not very sweet at all). Some lingering coffee-bitterness. A nice creamy mouthfeel. Not particularly complex but really very well executed, and that goes a long way. (1532, 1001)
