The satisfying elements of both stout and coffee come together in this full-bodied treat. A marriage of Sumatra's best with rich chocolate and roasted malt provides for a truly enlightening beer.

Wow! This is an incredible stout! Pours black w/ a tiny head that leaves awesome lacing! The aroma is an incredible burst of roasted coffee notes! The taste is chocolately upfront w/ some nice coffee roast at the finish. Clean, smooth, well balanced, & an absolute delight!

On tap at Whole Foods. Pours a dark brown/nearly black with no light passing. Lingering thin beige head and sugary lacing. Aroma is cold brewed coffee, with bitter sweet chocolate notes. Flavor is overall mild, slightly cigar or tobacco like bitterness dominating the coffee aspects. I am a big fan of Bell’s, but this seems below their usual standard of quality. I’m reminded if day old grounds being reused with this one; a slightly watery mouthfeel. Bitter finish.

Transfer from BA review on 2-29-12 - Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass Appearance – Served a deep brown nearly black color with a billowy tan head. The head was rather persistent and lasted some time before fading and leaving some nice lacing. Smell – Coffee aromas are strong. They are dark and roasty in nature. There is also an ever so light sweet chocolate aroma toward the middle and end of the aroma, but very light in comparison to the strong coffee. Taste – Just as the nose forebode, the taste is quite heavy in coffee. The dark roasted flavor permeates the mouth in the initial taste mixed with a strong roasted malt backbone. Some bitter chocolate works its way in toward the middle of the taste. While the taste is roasty coffee and a bit of bitter chocolate in the beginning it is still very smooth on the tongue. Toward the end the taste sweetens ever sol slightly, giving a lightly sweet coffee and cocoa flavor. It is quite pleasant and a not the slightest bit harsh. Mouthfeel – The body is rather creamy and the carbonation rather low. It coats the tongue allowing all the coffee and chocolate flavors to permeate the tongue; giving big flavors. It’s very pleasant and relaxing. Overall – This is one nice affordable coffee stout. One to try over and over again and have on many of occasions.

Pours black. Aroma and taste are largely coffee with a long coffee aftertaste. Very smooth and enjoyable.

Black pour and big amber head. Smells of roasted coffee and chocolate and tastes the same. Rich creamy mouthfeel. If the beer is too young the coffee can come off as tasting like day old brew left on the burner but this one (aug 31 13) is just fine.

Opaque, dark brown. Small tan head. Dark roasted coffee beans, some bitter chocolate notes, some nuttiness. Bitter, some slight sweetness. Heavy body, alcohol is relatively present, slightly oily. Quite strong, not particularly balanced, still very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Brutally dark, no light even at the edges. The head doesn’t go away. Looks like a cold pot of black coffee. Aroma is cold mocha coffee with a touch of hazelnut. Really does have the most burnt-coffee aroma that I’ve maybe ever had in a beer... but I’m not sure I personally love that. The taste has a sweet, nutty respite that isn’t in the nose. Adds a rounded sweetness to what is otherwise a burnt affair. The feel is very slick; just slides down the old gullet with nary a swallow. It’s essentially a cold cup of coffee.

Aroma of coffee, I smell more Colombian than Sumatra, maybe its the chocolate. Taste is dark roast, alcohol, malts, chewy in nature, alcohol. I am torn on this one, could use barrel aging of some sort, I would hope oak or maybe a rye bourbon barrel. I do like it, but I think aging can accentuate the flavors. (I know they made an oak aged version, would have been nice to try).

12 oz bottled 7 months ago, purchased at John’s Grocery ($3.49) and poured into a pint glass at home. Black appearance with a frothy, lasting light brown head, thick lacing. Aroma of strong coffee beans, dark chocolate and dark roasted malts. Similar flavor, adding a mild earthy bitterness and a touch of vanilla and caramel. Medium to full body, creamy and smooth with soft carbonation and a rich finish. Pretty damn good, I’d love to try a fresh one.
