Pours black with light brown head. Aromas of burnt malts and coffee. Slightly bitter roasted malt flavor with chocolate and coffee. Full body with moderate carbonation and a slick, oily mouthfeel. Another well done stout from Bells.

330 mL. Pours a deep brown almost black with a thin, yellowish head that sticks around for awhile. Good lacing. Aroma is saltwater with some capers and green olives overpowering the coffee and chocolate notes. Taste is very salty with lots of capers, motel coffee grounds, and bittersweet chocolate. As this beer warms it gets less salty and more like coffee. 7.5% is nicely hidden.

mostly assertive dark roasted coffee aroma, chocolate and little of much anything else...
flavors characteristically follow suit. strong chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts mostly that come off as primarily sweet. slight bitter roast in the finish. decent coffee stout with a sweeter finish...

Bottle. Strong coffee and roasted malt/chocolate aroma. Black body, small head. Outstanding semi-sweet coffee/chocolate flavor, lightly bitter finish. Wonderful.

From MrChopin via trade. The pour was ultra dark brown with a short tan head and spotty lacing. The aroma was mostly coffee in the initial rush. As it opened up light chocolate and roasted malts were there too. The flavor was slightly hoppy and slightly sweet with coffee bashing you over the head rather unsubtly. Relatively thin mouthfeel, which made it easier to get through. Good, just borderline one dimensional.

UPDATED: MAY 15, 2009 very good aroma with figs, prunes, and malt.and a hint of vanilla....has a nice creamy mouthfeel, with little to no head....finishing nicely with a medium roast coffee and just a hint of ash..

Bottle. inviting black color with tannish beige head. Soda-like in consistency and appearance. Coffee grounds, vanilla, decaf-black like my mother used to drink. Smooth with lightly acidic finish. Very drinkable. I have a bias for Bells - I come in expecting a good pour every time.
