Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Nonic Imperial Pint.
Appearance: Opaque black with thin tan head and slight lacing.
Aroma: Chocolate covered espresso beans and somewhat sweet roasted malts.
Taste: Starts off more sweet like a creamy coffee liquor before the drier roasted malts kick in with coffee, dark chocolate and a slightly sour mash. Ends somewhat bitter.
Palate: Low to moderate carbonation, somewhat full creamy and smooth body, dry finish.
Overall: Not as quite as good as Founders Breakfast Stout but damn close. Java Stout is maybe a little sweeter and not quite as smooth.

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2011 A great coffee stout. It’s really all about the coffee... Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is coffee - obviously - with a slight touch of vanilla and caramel, maybe a hint of licorice there as well. Taste is pretty much the same, a lot of coffee but with strong hints of cocoa bitterness and a well-balanced sweetness from caramel malts and brown sugar. Body is a bit lighter and not as creamy as your average american imperial stout but far richer than most beers, including most Belgians. A great beer, no doubt about it.

Bottle. @Akkurat. Pours opaque and nearly black with a lasting, beige head. Excellent lacings. Nose of roasted malts, coffee and chocolte notes. Sweet flavour is roasted malts, dark fruits, coffee and chocolate among hoppy notes. Full bodied, soft carbonation and oily texture. An excellent brew.
