Draft...more java than stout, really. Thick, chalky and bitter, it really tastes more like a mouthful of iced coffee, which if you like that you’ll like this. Alcohol slightly noticeable. I would much prefer an imperial stout over this.

Jul 19, 2008 Taste 7/8 Bottle (batch 8216). Looks: Black and tan. Aroma: Wow! Licorice, Toasted coffee beans,bitter nut. Taste: MMmmm...,acidic, coffee, chocolate. Medium body with a very creamy character. No alcohol in the aroma or the taste. Great brew. Think chocolate covered coffee beans.

Jul 18, 2008 Batch #8315 Pours dark. Big creamy tan head. Impressive lacing. Sweet creamy chocolatey flavor. Too me its more like capuchino then coffee. Really liked this beer, but really thought of it more of a desset beer. I’d call it a sweet stout. Not the kind of beer that you buy of a case of, but definitely another quality Bells brew.

Jul 9, 2008 On tap at the Outer Banks Brewing Station. Wonderful aroma of chocolate and coffee. Almost black with a nice tan head that lingers throughout. Very creamy feel going down.

Jul 7, 2008 Very dark pour with a very dark tan head. WOW! COFFEE!!!! very roasted character as well. Good quality fresh coffee beans seemed to have been used for this. Notices some earthy tones towards the finish with some hop bitterness and then more coffee. Good brew. Definitely a morning beer.

Jul 5, 2008 Pours out very dark, with a nice tan head leaving a good lacing and plenty of head stays on top. The name says it all, this one definately smells rich of coffee. If you don’t care for coffee, it might be too strong, but to me it smells awesome. Taste starts with a bit of coffee, and then some sort of green flavor comes in, not strong, but I can only seem to describe it as fresh vegetables straight from the garden, then the taste shifts back into a bitter chocolate flavor before joining back up with the coffee for a choco-coffee finish. Med-high carbonation, thin little bubbles bounce around on the tongue, light bodied and pretty dry. Mouthfeel doesn’t say Double Stout, says more Irish Dry Stout to me. I imagine this would be nice just about any time during the day, breakfast would fit in well with this, but it becomes a bit cloying by the end, one bottle would be enough. Definately worthy of a try and I could see myself having more, but probably wouldn’t break my regular lineup.
