4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 sauceyhops (104) - carlsbad, USA - SEP 1, 2009
12 oz bottle courtesy of Dak. Thanks again for the extensive Bells stout hookup! Deep brown, almost black pour, with a 1 finger, nut brown, head. Strong nose of roasted coffee, unsweetened chocolate, and wood. Smooth mouthfeel with the definite dryness of coffee. It is pretty dominating at first but the roasted malts and chocolaty notes come out as the beer warms a little. It’s almost a little too drinkable. I could see putting a few of these down in one sitting.

12oz bottle, bottled 9/22/11. Pitch black color, thin medium-brown head that fades to minimal. Super-awesome coffee aroma. I love it. I had this and the Troegs Javahead back-to-back last night, and I definitely prefer this (albeit by a small margin). They’re both totally different animals, however, and both great brews. Taylor tasted it, and she described it as a "punch in the face" (she preferred the Javahead). Yeah, it’s a punch in the face, but that’s what I want from a java stout. This delivers, call me enchanted. Taste is nice and roasty, light bitter. Body really stands out from the Javahead, this is much heavier and thicker with a less pronounced light and crisp carbonation, definitely very big and chewy. A great brew.

Wow. Nutty coffee combined with Bell’s delicious stout, this beer will awaken all your senses.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 dreadnord (117) - Castel Volturno, ITALY - JAN 13, 2012
Pours dark as night with a decent tan head. Nose is coffee, nutty, coffee, dry leaves and coffee. The coffee isn’t your run of the mill coffee smell though, it is strong has characteristics I’ve noted in some Kopi coffees. Flavor is great balance of sweet, salt and bitter although the coffee and hops packs a pretty bitter aftertaste. Sits on the palate quite a while, very sharp with a medium to full body. This beer is one of the better coffee stouts I’ve had!

Had this beer to long ago, just transferring from a app I was using to rate beer. As I drink these again I will add a better review.

This stout actually tastes like strong black coffee. I’d rather have one of these in the morning instead. Awesome beer!

Sweet malty caramel aroma. Pours a dark black with little to no head. Very malty, coffee taste with a choclaty caramel hint. Not overpoweringly strong. One of the top coffee stouts i have encountered.

Great beer. Have not tried anything by Bell’s brewery but I will try more now. So malty and delicious, kinda wish I had another.
