4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 sauceyhops (104) - carlsbad, USA - SEP 1, 2009
12 oz bottle courtesy of Dak. Thanks again for the extensive Bells stout hookup! Deep brown, almost black pour, with a 1 finger, nut brown, head. Strong nose of roasted coffee, unsweetened chocolate, and wood. Smooth mouthfeel with the definite dryness of coffee. It is pretty dominating at first but the roasted malts and chocolaty notes come out as the beer warms a little. It’s almost a little too drinkable. I could see putting a few of these down in one sitting.

Pours black with khaki head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, hint of chocolate and hops. Similar taste, coffee dominates throughout. Wish I could start off everyday with an expresso shot infused with this brew.

Looks like coffee, smells like coffee, tastes like coffee. Must be coffee or at least Bell’s Java Stout. Pretty good. It’s nice to find a coffee flavored stout that isn’t 10 percent plus of alcohol. Flavors are spot on for the catagory. Not too thick or heavy. Just right.

Bottle, pours black, less viscous than expected, small light brown head. Nose is a whallop of burnt coffee, some underipe fruits. Taste should be considered attempted assault: thick, greasy coffee mixed with roast pork, espresso, and slight chocolate. I appreciate what’s going on here, but this is just massively bitter.

On draft at The Eccentric Cafe, pours a very dark brown with a thick tan head, aroma is full of malt, coffee and a nice hint of chocolate. The flavor is very sweet with a strong kick of coffee to it. This is one great beer.

Bottle pours deep brown/black with a dense beige head that leaves some lace around the glass. Aroma is primarily coffee with some underlying chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor shows the same with sweet molasses to balance the dry bitter roasted finish.
