Strong rye and brett flavor with hints of apple. Cloudy, but tasty. Slightly tart, but not especially.

Very muddy reddish brown, corona of white head. Tasty aroma of sour apples and cherries, funky. Lively carbonation, pert viscous mouthfeel and finishes crisp. Taste of tart sour juicy apple, nutty malts, raspberry, pert rye. Very crisp and delicious.

Sampler Flight pour on tap at Eccentric Cafe (Kalamazoo, MI). Pours a murky amber orange hue, darker body is dulled, a lucid glow hits the edges and bottom. Frothy offwhite head atop stays as a mellow frothy film, decent ring sticks and laces small. Aromas are a bit fruity, citrus and pineapple meet touches of funk, cobwebs and bready malts. Gentle citrusy grapefruit, pineapple and touches of rye malt, bread and gentle biscuit. Initial is a bit fruity, pineapple and touches of fruity ester. Touches of cobwebs, gentle melon and bready malts. Muted carbonation hits gently with some more bretty life, emphasizing more fruit and pineapple, gentle touches of bread. Backend shows some more funk like elements, dryness and a bit earthy. Touches of rye, faint toastiness with mellow tropical fruit, pineapple and earth as we taper out. Dry, a bit bretty and spicy as we finish. It runs the gambit with that richer fruity brett nose, better balance and funk into the backend. Not the prettiest pour but the flavors and beer work well, pretty legit stuff with a more complex brett angle that I think works quite well. Nice stuff.

Another old rating found at the house under Brett’s Rye.dark brown pour small tan head light lacing. Veery mild aroma light wheat some raw grains. Melow smooth well coated palate. Wow odd balance of flavor not like a rye or brett .. Some light almost smoke comes through a lingeringly active tongue is fairly tingly. Hints of raw grain hard to pick out the details but delicious.

On tap at Eccentric Café. Hazy amber with a thin layer atop. Aroma is funky and dusty with rye, fruits and herbal notes. Taste is semi-wild with plenty of fruit and tannins, rye, caramel and eucalyptus. A bit gritty.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2014 Tap: Pure copper with an ever-so-slightly off-white head that litters the sides of the glass with spotty lacing. Aroma is a bit sour & sweet, fruity and dense with some old cork funk to it. Not much rye on the nose, just a little dryness perhaps. Taste starts with a touch of leafiness and leads into lots of fruit. Light strawberry, orange, and other slight berry flavors. Sweetness turns into a snappy tartness with a good amount of Brett-like funk. Yeast, old, soaked cork, musty, damp wood, a little barnyard-esque. Heavy rye in the finish, a little toasty and dry. Not quite a sour and not quite a rye beer - a little of both I guess. Pretty good, unique and tasty.

For a funk beer (not my style at all) this one isn’t too bad. Not my style though...

Pint at the Eccentric Cafe on 3/30/13. Clear amber pour with a thin beige head. Aroma of bretty funk, lemon citrus and malt. Malty and bretty funky flavor with some caramel before a bready finish. Different, and tasty.
