3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Maduro. Poured medium amber with a large, creamy cap of off-white head.. just lovely! The aroma picked up juicy grapefruit over a bed of soft caramel.. building floral and spicy character as it warmed up.. well-balanced. The flavor found grainy caramel and pale malts at the core with citrus, spicy floral, and piney bitterness around.. simple-ish, but tasty. Medium-bodied and again grainy on the palate, but the balance was spot-on and it was easy-drinkiní.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at Maduro prior to GTWM 2009. Poured a clear medium orange color with a white head. The aroma was decidedly citrusy ala orange Pez candy, but there was also a bit of malty caramel. Light to medium bodied with moderate hop bitterness. Hops dominated the flavor with the likes of pine and citrus fruits. The malt backbone was ample with the same caramel detected in the nose.

Poured a hazy amber color with an average white frothy head that lasted and produced good lacing. Light to moderate citrus hop and small malt aroma. Light to medium body with a thin texture and soft carbonation. Moderate hoppy bitter flavor with a medium bitter finish of average duration.
At best an average brew.

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
IBGF 2009: Hazy golden hue with a lasting frothy head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of grassy and herbal hops, biscuity and grainy malts, and a touch of grapefruit. The taste is rather mundane, herbal hop bitterness with a layer of basic pale malt grains underneath. No real sign of any citric twang, hop spice nor was it clean and refreshing. The mouth feel is a sloppy astringent spent grains and was even a tad buttery. Wow, WTF? This is utterly useless, Bells can and has done better... where is Two Hearted when you need one?.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
7/18/2009: Bellís Kalamazoo IPA has some fruity citrus nots and a mild bitterness. It is bright yellow in color with an off-white head and lasting lacing. Howeer, it is very weak overall and this is made worse by its watery body and slightly grainy texture. Overall this was the weakest IPA and the most disappointing beer of the entire day. To compound matters, it just isnít that good of a beer in general!
Draught sample(s) at the 14th Annual Indiana Microbrewers Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana. Rating #5 for this beer.

Draft at the Beer Sellar. Pour is light amber with some sticky white head. This one is mostly just a grassy and leafy. Not much going on here at all.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught @ Bellís Eccentric Cafe, Kalamazoo, MI: Pours a dark amber in colour, good white head. Aroma is very hoppy, a blend of grapefruit and pine needles, some caramelized sugars present as well. Flavour is initially grapefruit, lemon, making way for a decent level of caramel sweetness. Itís a very good IPA, but a muted version of what you might expect going in.
