topherh (878), Kearney, Missouri, USA Feb 23, 2009 Batch 7051 found it hiding in my cellar. Poured black with a one finger brown head. Aroma is lots of chocolate and sweet malt. Flavor starts as bittersweet chocolate and a little caramel, then finishes with some roasty malt/ hop bitterness. soccer290 (135), Highland Park, Illinois, USA Feb 19, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a stout-like motor oil black, with a half finger high tan head. Smells of chocolate, caramel, malt, quite pleasant actually. Tastes of roasted chocolate, what I guess is molasses, and a hint of caramel. Goes down smooth, but not as full-bodied as I would hope for in a stout. Good, but nowhere near as good as Bells’ Expedition Stout is. watson1977 (250), , Pennsylvania, USA Feb 19, 2009 pours a deep black with a thick mocha head. aroma is of malted chocolate...like whoppers...with a hint of coffee to it. flavor is roasty with a touch of smoke, some chocolate, and molasses. also a hint of a metallic taste. nice creamy moutfeel with a roasty finish that has that metallic quality to it... popephred (193), Plainfield, Illinois, USA Feb 18, 2009 Poured from the bottle into a standard pint glass. Pour produced an opaque, black-brown body topped by a thick, frothy head of dark tan foam. Thick smell of coffee with hints of anise, along with a thick creamy texture and rich roasted coffee flavor make this stout a beer that eats like a meal. I think that the only thing that prevents this from being a perfect stout is that the bitter, roasted coffee flavor lasts a little too long on the palate. Iceman82 (26), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 17, 2009 Another bottle courtesy of my beer director. Pours black in color with a nice tan colored head. Surprised at how much head developed. Aromas of caramel, coffee, molasses, and chocolate swarm from this glass. Upon tasting, it wasn’t as heavy as I expected. Huge flavors of chocolate and espresso, dark malt, molasses and a light nuttiness. Just a great, easy drinking stout!! jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Feb 17, 2009 Black in color with a decent sized tan head. Aroma is very roasty with coffee and dark malt aromas. Taste is of coffee, roasted malts, and dark chocolate. dutch23mp (160), Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA Feb 15, 2009 12 oz bottle pours dark with small head. The flavors are so well balanced and it seems you get a taste of the molasses and chocolate with almost no taste of ABV. This is the first Bell’s I have had a gift from my son Chicago Bear. can’t help but give this beauty top grades. garthicus (1216), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 12, 2009 Thanks to HogTownHarry!!! Appearance: Deep dark black, small but consistent off white head. Aroma: Malt, smoke, peat and cream, some slight dark fruit lingering in the background. Flavour: Light body, smoke, peat, chocolate, lots of carbonation, a dry peaty finish, very enjoyable. Thanks Harry!
