| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 15, 2009 12 oz bottle pours dark with small head. The flavors are so well balanced and it seems you get a taste of the molasses and chocolate with almost no taste of ABV. This is the first Bell’s I have had a gift from my son Chicago Bear. can’t help but give this beauty top grades. garthicus (1273), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 11, 2009 A nice Stout that didn’t try to do too much at once. A roasted aroma is present from start to finish and tastes of the same. Very drinkable. lithy (1650), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Smells hugely of coffee and chocolate. Light licorice taste, complex body. Great developing taste and lasting finish. Prefect example of an american stout. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 6, 2009 Updated: Mar 4, 200912oz bottle, batch 8874. Appearance: Black with a mid-tan head (4) Aroma: wet roasted grain, light coffee, maybe a little roasted vegetable (6) Flavor: medium dry, roasty, chocolate, light licorice, medium bitter finish with a hint of smoke/burnt flavor. (7) Palate: medium, pretty smooth carbonation, but still has some life (4)
Overall: Solid stout. Nothing exciting, but not much to complain about except the quirky nose (13). Don’t really get the crazy-high ratings for this one though.
Rerate: Didn’t get that funky quality in the aroma, which helped overall. Manages to pack in a good amount of flavor while being relatively light and drinkable. Still just a solid stout, but I’m a fan. TheBeerBaron (219), Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 6, 2009 Deep black color very little head that disappears quickly and no bubbles coming to the top. Not nearly as good looking as a Guinness. Chocolaty aroma but also a sweet light spice akin to the licorice thats advertised on the bottle. A mostly bitter flavor for this stout. Malt as well but no sight of the licorice I think the strong flavors and evident hops overcome any exotic light spice. Overall a boring and bitter tasting stout.
