hogan873 (317), Joliet, Illinois, USA Jan 30, 2009 Not a hint of light escapes this brew. Pitch black with a tan head that leaves nice lacing. Chocolate, caramel, coffee, and licorice make up the fine aroma. Medium-full bodies with decent carbonation. The beer starts sweet with chocolate and caramel notes. Finishes with dark coffee/espresso bitterness. Absolutely delicious. DSG (1501), Tel Aviv, Israel Jan 29, 2009 (11/15/08) Bottle at friends’ house in Philadelphia. Thanks a lot for this bottle archmik! Black-colored with a big bubbly beige to light brown head that falls slowly. Aroma of roasted malt, some coffee, some smokiness and licorice. Sweet roasty flavor with coffee, some fruit hints, licorice notes and a bit of espresso. Finishes bitter. Medium to full-bodied. Very nice. tmoreau (527), Lombard, Illinois, USA Jan 26, 2009 12oz. bottle at Lunar Brewing. Poured into a Czech pils glass, black/brown and visually thick. It exhibited a frothy, dark tan head, with some dense, clingy lace. The nose was dry, with roasted notes, coffee, and a touch of sweetness as dark fruit and molasses. I found chocolate in the flavor with some coffee and caramel. I liked the mellow existence of the hop bitterness as it balanced nicely with the other flavors. Flavorful and very quaffable stout! brewski519 (395), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA Jan 26, 2009 From a 12oz bottle this brew poured black with a nice brown head. Aroma of dark malts, chocolate, coffee and licorice. Nice silky chocolate and coffee taste with a little licorice in the aftertaste. Solid mouthfeel - nice and creamy. A very drinkable stout. LtDan (471), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA Jan 23, 2009 I did not find nearly as much aroma or flavor as the rest of the folks that reviewed this beer. Faint roasted aromas, decent chocolate flavor. Didn’t find the licorice or anything complex. Loved the mouthfeel, very silky. fidel (886), Livermore, California, USA Jan 21, 2009 Pours dark brown/black, roasted malts, dark chocolate, molasses, caramel, little coffee, little licorice. kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA Jan 18, 2009 12oz bottle from Willow Bend Liquors (Tampa, FL). Pours a hazy dark brown to black color with massive two finger tan head that settles slowly and heavily laces the glass. Aroma is sweet and malty with strong notes of roasted malt, dark ripe fruit, some anise, molasses and dark chocolate. Flavor is roasted and malty with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, toffee, caramel, honey, anise, and molasses. Generally medium to full body with a pleasing chocolate and coffee finish. pj1855 (154), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Jan 18, 2009 Pours a dark black with an average sized tan head. Excellent lacing.
Aroma of roasted coffee and licorice.
Nice blend of flavors in this one. Intiallly you taste roasted coffee, malts, chocolate and that’s balanced off with some hops and the the liicorice coming through on the end. Another nice one from bells.
