This is a full-bodied stout with plenty of roast flavor as well as hints of molasses and chocolate. Ridiculous amounts of black and caramel malts make this stout smooth, creamy, and utterly opaque.

12 oz. bottle. Pours dark, opaque cherrywood color with a persistent creamy, brown head. Aromas of chocolate and cold coffee with some fruity notes. Flavors of espresso and Milk Duds and a warm, hoppy finish. This is good stuff.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2005 12 oz bottle. Espresso, dark chocolate, and some hop aroma. Pitch black with a brown head. Some lace. Looks pretty think. Very sweet. Kind of like chewing on a coffee bean. Bitter enough to balance sweetness. Quite full bodied an silky smooth.

UPDATED: JUN 16, 2010 bottle. Pours solid black with a dark brown head. The aroma is very roasty and ashy with assertive espresso notes. The mouthfeel is moderately dense for a regular old stout. This really brings the expedition stout to mind, just a little milder. Solid smoky, burnt, espresso notes are way up front on the palate with light creamier notes in the finish. It’s pretty much expedition’s little brother. Great stout.

Pint from a cask at Nicholson’s Pub. This is one stout that translates well in a cask. The palate is very creamy and slick and the serving temperature really lets the strong roasty qualities shine. The finish is everlasting and savory like espresso and meat. Hops start to be noticed after a few sips. This is one tasty brew.

Black black black. Tan head. Mighty aroma here, only matched by its taste. Lots of molasses and brown sugar, combined with tons of roasted malts. This IS a stout. Taste is much of the same, with the addtion of a solid coffee character and a hint of vanilla. Some hops noted which rounds out a nice complex stout. Great mouthfeel. Big, thick, and chewy. Perfect for any time of the year. Yum Yum.

Pours black with mostly retained tan head. Aroma of dark bread, brown sugar, chocolate, and molasses. Taste is very roasty but also somewhat sweet. Body is thick and carbonation is high for a stout.

Black pour through and through with a good size tan head. Strong aroma of malts - molasses, hint of chocolate. Wonderful taste of roasted malts, chocolate, molasses, caramel. Smooth with a suprise bit of bitter that lasts.

Black in colour with a fair amount of carbonation and a very dark head. The aromas are generally sweet and malty, with notes of milk chocolate and a bit of plum. The flavors are quite roasty, and suggest coffee, molasses, caramel, and a bit more chocolate. I could also detect a bit of hop flavor as well, but most of the bitterness comes from the roasted malts. Massive body to this one too!

UPDATED: JUL 21, 2005 Pours black as night. Head looks like whipped chocolate mousse...thick and foamy. Obvious aromas of dark chocolate, rich and malty. Strong roasty, chocolate and coffee combo of flavors, sweetens near the finish...molasses like. A taste which is a little stronger than a mocha finish. Body is big, thick, and chewy. Very smooth and well balanced. Flavor is distinctive and mellower than most stouts.

Bottle, thick looking black opaque pour. Huge aroma of roasted malts and some chocolate, maybe a little toffee. Very good palate - light smooth carbonation, with big roasted malts and chocolate. Finishes with some small lingering bitterness. Very nice - finding such huge stout flavors n a 6.5% stout is very nice.

Poured a dark black color with an averaged sized brown head. Aromas and tastes of chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. I loved the chocolate presence in this one. Coffee bitterness in the finish.
