This is a full-bodied stout with plenty of roast flavor as well as hints of molasses and chocolate. Ridiculous amounts of black and caramel malts make this stout smooth, creamy, and utterly opaque.

12 oz bottle. Aroma is of roasted malts and slightly sweet. Flavor is more malt and a little coffee with a dry finish. My favorite stout at this time - it would be tough to improve on.

Bottle. Black body, big frothy creamy dark khaki head. Nice brewers lace. Dry aroma of cocoa and dark malt, touch of alcohol. Flavour is quite dry with a mild roast that is not strong but pervasive. Dark chocolate is more obvious as it warms. Medium to full bodied palate would feel creamier if it were not so dry. Bit disappointing. It is a nice stout, but the Expedition is substantially more to my liking.

UPDATED: JUN 16, 2007 Bottle. Pours black with brown head. Aroma is sweet and roasty. Flavor is nutty, sweet, with subtle hints of coffee. Smooth but subtle bitter finish, but with some very slight notes of molasses. Very easy to drink, but still bold. Simply put, a great stout. No wonder this is a top 50.

Looks inviting, Smells rough but like a fruity chocolate. Taste is great, like a chocolate milkshake. Creamy on the palate like whipped mashed potatoes. Overall this beer is a real treat, just like a hot fudge sundae in a blender.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2007 impenetrable, this beer is like a black hole with a dense creamy head. The aroma doesnít do the appearance of this beer justice, though only because it is fairly weak in scent... though what aroma there is smells creamy. The flavor is really outstanding, the standard rich/creamy/coffee/chocolate flavor of a stout, with excellent mouth feel. The flavors become more intense as this beer sits at room temperature for longer. Iíve drank very few superior beers.May 16, 2007: Well, I have to mark off flavor by 2, palate by 1, and overall by 2. This is a damnded fine beer, donít get me wrong, but this was a very early rating. The nose was still great, I was tempted to up that. The appearance is still phenomenal, though from the bottle I had less head. The palate is a little bit fizzier. The flavors are a bit more astringent and cola like that I remember. Donít get me wrong, Iíd still drink this every day if my local had this on tap, but itís just not the ethereal nectar of the Gods I once thought it was. Perhaps my favorite straight stout.
