3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Thanks to Springslicker for the bottle. Pours opaque black, small light brown head. Caramely roasted malt aroma. Syrupy sweet nose which dampens to a set of caramel flavors combined notes of coffee and unsweetened chocolate. Slighty bitter finish interplayed with residual sweetness. Mouthfeel is full and sticky, which has the effect of retaining the sweet character in the flavor profile even in the parts where it isnít overly emphasized.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a pitch black color with a medium light brown head. Good, sweet aroma of roasted malt. Good flavor of chocolate and roasted malt with a bitter finish. Light to medium body, dry texture, soft carbonation. This is a very good stout although itís not exceptional or special, itís just plain good and enjoyable. Thanks to csbosox for sending this.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2005 Almost black with a thin brown head. Aroma of chocolate, dark caramel, some leather, coffee. Big bodied and smooth with a slightly chalky and bitter finish. Burnt flavors with coffee, toffee and a bit of mint. Some smokeyness comes out as it warms. A sweet stout though? Nice

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz. bottle. Near black in color with a small tan head. Very faint roasted malt aroma. Flavor was much more intense than the aroma would lead you to believe. Lots of dark roasted malts, coffee and hops. Finish is nicely dry and bitter. Excellent.

3.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Very dark beer. No light comes through this one when it gets held up. It has a deep tan head which leaves fairly quickly. Little aroma detected other than some light malt scent. The taste however is incredibly roasted. It is almost charred in character. There is a subtle sweetness but mostly what I taste is a deep dark malt. Friends noted that it reminded them of a dark coffee. Very drinkable, heavy but smooth. A great example of a good stout.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours an opaque black/brown with red hints. The head was thin but chunky with an off brown color. The aroma had plenty of toasted and burn malts, some ash and sharp hints, as well as some root aromas. The body was very interesting in that it was creamy and fluffy as well as being lite and a bit watery, very odd combination. The flavors were big on toasted malt, and smores came to mind a few times (gram cracker, charcoal, and coco hints). Not a bad brew but nowhere near their expedition stout.
