4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Pours a luxurious pitch black covered with a thick whipped brown head. Great lacing. Aroma is clean (no sourness), sweet milk/coffee, mocha, perfect roasty chocolate background without being too burnt. Earthy and woody without being overly oaky, wonderful balance. Great coating mouth feel, creamy and rich, mild/low alcohol. Mild roasty flavor, medium finish, but still very satisfying. Low hop profile. The body and the clean taste of this beer make it one of the best. “Oh, the balance, the balance.”

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: APR 20, 2007 Pours thick black with a fluffy light brown head. Soft chocolate notes on the aroma. Flavor is very reminiscent to Expedition stout but everything is divided by 2. That same sweet chocolate and mocha flavor. Not nearly as much hops. And of course half the alcohol. Relatively thin mouthfeel for such a dark stout. Makes for a very tasty stout. Tons of what looks like powdered chocolate leftover in the bottle.
rerate, damn, this is awesome. by the far the best non-imperial-stout-stouts i’ve ever had. best when it’s a bit warm

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Exceptional for a regular sweet stout. Opaque black with a thin tan head. Aroma of coffee, caramel, roaste dmalt, some vanilla. Palate is very thick and silky. Flavor is sweet, but not cloying. Lots of roast and bitter chocolate. Some caramel malt, coffee, slight hops, and lots of residual (I think lactose) sugars. Finishes nice and clean with a bit of lingering sweetness.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
I really enjoyed this sweet stout. I didn’t quite get the molasses flavor, but did pick up on a rather apparent caramel flavor and aroma. Dark chocolate also very apparent. Poured a beautifully deep dark, almost black with surprisingly caramel brown head. An excellent beer.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20

Resampled on 1/7/06 from a bottle. Still as good as ever. Awesome.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
color is black with thin layer of dense foamy head, umber in color. aroma is roasted toasted chocolate malt, a little vanilla and tobacco too. mouthfeel is very creamy, carbonation is lively. flavor starts silky with smooth roasted malt, a little chocolatey, but goes to a more smokey and hoppy finish in the back of the palate. dryish finish. this is a great stout, someone trade me an expedition now!

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Black, opaque with a dark, tan head. Maple, molasses, rich, sweet, and tar-like intensity in the aromatics (some ash as well). Flavor matches the aroma but a solid bitterness and hop flavor encourages drinkability. Alcoholic heat and a plummy, earthiness make for a long finish.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Thanks CaptainCougar! This one pours pitch black with a solid tan head and nice lacing. The aroma can only beer compared with sniffing a carton of chocolate milk. This defines smooth. A velvety chocolate and mocha flavor. This is awesome! Bells makes the best stouts hands down!
