marcus (1826), Sacramento, California, USA Sep 21, 2009 Bottle at Hopleaf. This black ale poured with a two-finger tan head and a strong chocolate nose. There is a rich coffee and treacle flavor with a very dry finish and lots of carbonation. vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA Sep 20, 2009 Bottle. Dark pour with tan head. Dark malt, slight caramel and licorice flavoring. Although these flavors usually are heavy flavor is light on the senses and has a smooth mouthfeel. dnstone (136), , New Jersey, USA Sep 19, 2009 Updated: Oct 7, 2009Pours pitch black with a great tan head that clings to the glass. Obvious roated, light nose. A solid stout with a nice "burnt" finish. Light on the tongue but smooth. joeneugs (289), Livermore, California, USA Sep 18, 2009 Pours dark brown/black with a dark brown head. The aroma is dark fruit, licorice, and a touch of chocolate. The flavor is smooth and chocolaty. Nice roasted feel with low carbonation. You taste the licorice on the palate as it goes down. Medium bodied and Kalua like. Feels way bigger than a 6%. Tastiest stout I’ve had! Anker (305), Hillerød, Denmark Sep 17, 2009 Bottle at Monk’s Café, Stockholm.
Pours pitch black with a brown head.
Aroma is roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate with hints of prunes.
Flavour is dark chocolate, liquorice and coffee.
Quite smooth on the palate. BiddleBrau (303), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Sep 16, 2009 Pours just a hint off jet-black with off-tan thin head. Aroma is sweet, chocolate, hint of roast and some plums/raisins. Oh this is good. Very smooth, creamy, with a roasty and dry aftertaste that lingers. Chocolate, coffee and and a hint of fruit flavor very faint and fades as the roastiness steps up. Well balanced, nice flavor, nothing too extreme. If anything the palate is a bit light. Listigovers (96), Ontario, Canada Sep 15, 2009 Pure black, small dark brown head. Chocolate aroma. Wonderful velvety mouthfeel with a beautiful and undeniably silky finish with plenty of flavours rolling across your tongue. Full bodied. Nice bitterness in the finish. Complex chocolate flavours develop in the finish. With a richer aroma, it would be nearly perfect. Breathtaking. plovmand (1590), Helsinge, Denmark Sep 13, 2009 Bottle at Monks Cafe, Stockholm. Pitch black body with a medium brown head. ARoma has lots of coffee, roasted malt, caramel and chocolate. Flavour is coffee, roasted malt, coffee and light tobacco. Creamy texture. Lovely brew.
