dukefan (173), Dallas, Texas, USA Apr 17, 2008 Straight up roasty, flavorful yummy stout. Like most of Bell’s "base" products, this is a benchmark for the style. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA Apr 13, 2008 Pours deep black with small brown frothy head. Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate, and dark fruits. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee, and some chocolate in the finish. Very good brew, but nothing to jump up and down about. BeMerry (37), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Apr 10, 2008 Bottle. Pours pitch black with small cocoa head. Sweet aroma of chocolate, caramel and unknown spice, perhaps clove. Tastes of medium-sweet chocolate, roasted coffee, clove, with delicious slightly sour-bitter ending on back of tongue that lasts. Everything in perfect balance. Creamy, rich mouthfeel. An after dinner cordial. to linger over and relish. pintocb (508), Darsville, Georgia, USA Apr 9, 2008 Dark and a bit oily looking. Fluffy off white head. I don’t get much licorice, but I do like the aroma. The flavor is dry and roasty. The finish is smooth and wonderful. Another good Bell’s experience. They really need to distribute to GA. gonzo46and2 (108), Tampa, Florida, USA Apr 8, 2008 I loved this stout. Great roasted malt. Tastes of nutty coffee and liquorice. JFGrind (1346), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 8, 2008 Enjoyable full-bodied stout with a licorice undertone, solid roasted, caramel and chocolate malts. Not sure who the guy on the label is supposed to be, but he should take pride in knowing his mug graces a great beer. ksurkin (355), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Apr 7, 2008 Updated: Apr 12, 2008pours nearly jet black, not as thick as the expedition, with a thin brown head andvery little carbonation. aroma is all stout with roasted nuts, coffee, and honestly, some black olive notes (actually licorice) along with chocolate malt. flavor is wonderful. starts off with roasted malt and quickly turns to a full on coffee flavor with a great lingering bitterness. i agree with the last rater about the "burnt dark chocolate". almost perfectly describes the atertaste. amazed at how bells makes two different, yet two great stouts with this and the expedition. changeup45 (782), Orlando, Florida, USA Apr 7, 2008 Updated: Aug 4, 2008Pours a black color topped with only a thin brown head. I was a little disappointed by the lack of a thick creamy head. Aroma is roasted chocolate malt albeit mild. There is however quite a bit of flavor to this one. It starts off with a nice rich toasty dark chocolate flavor blended in with malt and a hint of coffee in the background. A bitter aftertaste lingers a while. This one lets you taste it, the mouthfeel is nice and full. In between sips I keep tasting a roasted, almost burned, dark chocolate, bitter flavor. This is good.
