pineypower (1077), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Mar 2, 2008 Pours out black with a small tan head. Aroma is of roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is complex with a nice full mouthfeel. Sure wish I could get this stuff locally. This is a great stout. Pours deep black with brown highlights and a tan head. Lovely dry roasty flavor, just the right hints of sweetness to keep it from being chalky or ashy, mouthwatering baker’s chocolate, cappuccino, maby a trace of that licorice they mention. Very nice mouthfeel, incredibly drinkable at 6%.
Splendid, really splendid. matt7215 (943), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Feb 28, 2008 12 oz bottle from a trade with the cheeseman. pours dark brown with a small tan head. roasty aromas with lotsa sweetness but not overly abundant or complex. flavours of anise, chocolate, coffee, all good roasted stout flavours. very drinkable and completely satisfactory. im glad i have another (courtesy hogtownharry). illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Feb 28, 2008 Bottle courtesy of gunhaver.
Poured into a pint glass, quite black with a tan one-finger head. The foam leaves a bunch of thick lacing as it dwindles to a cap.
Aromas of chocolate graham cracker, sweet cream, and a hint of roastiness. Heavenly.
Flavor tones down the sweetness a bit, while upping the roasted character. Fudge at the very front of the palate, then a big roasted finish with some astringency. I would have liked more sweetness to balance out the roasted bitterness because it seems a little too harsh for a sweet stout.
The carbonation is a little high for a stout, but it remains pretty smooth, and the roastiness makes for a dry finish.
Overall this beer is a nice change of pace from all the RISs I’ve been drinking. dogfishho (172), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Feb 26, 2008 Pours oil thick and black with a dark brown head that thins out quickly, but is present throughout the drink. The aroma is thick and chewy with very roasty notes, coffee, and dark chocolate. The flavor is very similar to the aroma, but the body helps contribute to the overall experience, making it quite pleasurable. The oiliness of the appearance comes right through in the mouthfeel and makes it silky smooth. very nice. Wish I could get this locally. StFun (535), Indiana, USA Feb 24, 2008 Updated: Jan 8, 2009Very nice offering from Bells! A "lite" version of Expedition Stout, but still very much able to stand on its own. Aroma is nice; chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Very easy drinking! All of the aroma comes through in the flavor, with the addition of roasted malt and barley. Pretty much a simpler form of Expedition, with everything amped down a notch, and no alcohol presence. Somewhat sticky and bitter on the aftertaste. Give it a try. markas101 (541), Fargo, North Dakota, USA Feb 23, 2008 33 cl bottle, Fargo. Ink black colour, dark tan creamy head. Intense roasted malt, coffee and chocolate aroma. Velvety in the mouth, very smooth, sweet and warming on the way down. Excellent.
