LeMunche (66), Orland Park, Illinois, USA Jan 26, 2008 Not much to say about this one and I think they want it that way. Its not an imperial , dry, or sweet stout. Its just a stout. Well balanced with a good amount of flavor for a 6% brew. Drink all night with no regrets. Fine Bell’s product. Goodgrief (1147), Middletown, Delaware, USA Jan 26, 2008 April 2006 - This was one fine beer...and I have 5 left (tempting me to hoard them all for myself). Beer poured dark, dark brown, with a very small head and almost no lacing. Highlights of red came through on the bottom and edges of my pint glass when held right up to the light. Initially, the flavor was all roasty with some coffee, but got immensely better as it warmed (don’t go too fast!). Lactic tones came out making me think this should be touted as the best milk stout in the world. Perfect creaminess and hop balance. Freaking tasty! DWestrick (235), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Jan 25, 2008 Updated: Feb 9, 2008Very dark with small brown head...very bitter stout and malty. A pretty good stout but not quite my flavor Pastor (509), Maine, USA Jan 25, 2008 Thanks Jay23 for the great extra and the opportunity to try this one
Batch number 8055 bottle poured into a large tulip glass. Jet black body with a tan head that goes into a nice layer of lace
Aromas of molasses and toasted grains fill your head
Medium creamy mouth feel
Taste is sweet malts with flavors of coffee and a slight hop bitter (where is the licorice?)
A very easy to drink stout a nice finish to the night if it was available I drink it again
sgallant (21), USA Jan 25, 2008 My new favorite basic stout. I like the smooth, yet flavorful mouthful that is followed by a mild hoppy taste. I real nice combination. SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Jan 22, 2008 Deep brown to black in color with a solid brown head. There were scents of Valrhona chocolate, molasses, coffee and a touch of smoke. This had medium strength with a balanced midpalte that lead to a hoppy finish. Some creaminess in the middle leading to bitter coffee which makes its way through to the finish. This one doesn’t hit you over the head rather brings you in slowly. mixinnixon2000 (227), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 22, 2008 bottle. nice dark pour. lots of roasted malt. nothing that jumps out and grabs you about this stout, but overall a delicious well balance stout Naka (524), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 19, 2008 Pours a completely opaque dark brown with a thick foamy beige head. A nutty roasted caramel-coffee nose. A bit of smoke in the flavor. Rich malt flavor that is balanced very nicely with a bitterness that hits in the finish. Almost tastes a little burnt. I don’t get any of the licorice. Decent mouthfeel with an oily texture.
