AR (417), Georgia, USA Sep 11, 2009 A strong aroma and a very opaque appearance. The mix of flavors includes a creamy caramel, coffee, licorice, grapes and cherries. Hearty, but very smooth for a stout. Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Sep 7, 2009 3 bottles consumed, acquired via trade. Pours black as pitch with a very minimal tan head and solid lacing. Aroma is licorice, chocolate, toasted malt, a hint of earthy hop. Flavor is big on the toasted malt with less licorice than I expected and a solid chocolate backing that keeps it all in line. Another excellent beer from Bells, I really wish they distributed out here, I bet they’d find a huge market! Brewbie (217), New York, USA Sep 3, 2009 12oz bottle. dark black pour. small lasting dark tan head. the aroma fills the air with the pour. dark chocolate, roast. the taste is smooth and creamy, thick on the tongue. heavy chocolate and toasted malts. touch of bitter balance at the finish. wish i could get this in my neck of NY. delicious Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Sep 2, 2009 (Bottle, Monk’s Café, Wallingatan, Stockholm) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee and a hint of liquorice. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, some liquorice and a dry, smotth, creamy finish with some coffee bitterness. Great balance. More or less what stout is all about. Lovely beer! jlruthven (134), Milledgeville, Georgia, USA Aug 29, 2009 Bottle, poured into pint glass. I was stoked to see this at my local bottle shop; first time I’ve seen Bell’s anywhere in GA. Poured inky black, with a one-inch light brown head that held till the beer was about two-thirds gone. Beautiful nose of roasted malts, slightly burnt chocolate, and caramel. Taste is VERY roasted and smoky, with a bit of espresso and molasses coming through. My new favorite stout not preceded by the word "imperial." DuffManSW (283), Riverside, California, USA Aug 29, 2009 Bottle (Batch 9095) thanks to FlssmrBrewAlum.. Pours black with a thin ring head..Aroma is slightly sweet with some roasted malts...Lots of dark chocolate with lingering bitterness, some coffee and roasted malts as well.. Lots of carbonation Sonicdescent (374), Donora, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 23, 2009 Appearance is a beauty. Thick, creamy head that dissapears after a few minutes leaving a thick lace. The beer pours very dark and gives the impression of thickness.
Smell is typical for this style, cream/milk with hints of caramel and other sweet scents.
Taste is damn good, delivering what I want in a sweet stout with major blasts of cream.
Mouthfeel is good with a medium to thick body that coats the mouth as it goes down.
Drinkability is a high point, this goes down easy and Would make a good session stout. Would have again.
