SynergyXJ (506), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA Nov 5, 2007 Bottle Black pour with big quick dying head. Dark coffee and licorace flavor and aroma. Flavor is much thicker. Great brew. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Nov 5, 2007 Bottle. Nutty roasted dark chocolate aroma. Black with perhaps the best head I have ever seen. Nice flavor but a bit of a watery finish. Not as bold as I hoped it would be. It is slightly chalky but still quite drinkable. Would really enjoy the flavor if it were kicked up a notch or two. timsilvia32 (445), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Nov 4, 2007 Updated: Aug 31, 2008I love the Bells dark offerings, they generally add more hop character than most. I lived in Kalamazoo, so maybe I’m partial. Nice black pour with a dark tan head. Standard stout flavors intense as with any Bells. I will say, as I’ve seen in reviews for this, that most Bells beers are not all that well balanced. The special double cream stout is slightly better, I’d rate this one 2nd in their stable. wickedpete (625), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Nov 3, 2007 Updated: Nov 15, 2007Dark dark dark with a creamy tan head that fades quickly and leaves sheets of lacing on the glass. Aroma is coffee, chocolate and alcohol. Overwhelming roasted bitterness in the flavor with a thin watery body. Not as well balanced as reported, I would put this in the "average" category. shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 3, 2007 Very intense flavours here: Licorice and dark chocolate hit the entire range of tastebuds from start to finish. A little bit of alcohol, grassy hops and cola-float flavours in there as it warms. Very interesting with tickling carbonation in the otherwise super-smooth body. pumpmaster (473), Pembroke Pines, Florida, USA Nov 2, 2007 12 ounce bottle purchased at Case & Keg Boca Raton, FL for about $2.25 Really enjoyable! KieferUGA (461), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 2, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Pours black with medium sized tan head. Aroma of roasted coffee. Mouthfeel is nice and dry. Chocolate notes really settle nicely around the tongue. Finish is a bit bitter, but in a good way. hopson (591), Williamsville, New York, USA Nov 2, 2007 draft- nice tan head, on top of a dark black brew. roasty aroma which does not overpower leads to a great coffee/roast/ chocolate stout with just the right amount of sweetness. delicious.
