BigMilly8 (374), Holiday, Florida, USA Oct 16, 2007 From bottle : Really nice aroma at first look, love at first smell you could say. Pours a very dark brown, boarderling black color with a light brown head, not all that big, that diminishes fairly fast to a ring. Great smell of roasted nuts, caramel, chocolate, coffee, malts. Flavor is much the same as the aroma with some licorice and maybe a little bitty note of alcohol on the end. Smooth as a babys bottom on the palate, creamy, full and very enjoyable. verymerrymonk (255), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 15, 2007 Dark brown body with a small tan head. A really nice melange of chocolate, coffee, fruit, licorice. So nicely balanced for having this much "stuff" going on. Probably about as good as it gets for $8.99/six. fattibobatti (246), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Oct 15, 2007 Bottle from ABC in St. Petersburg FL. Just about everything that needs to happen in a stout for me can be found here. aroma is dark roasted malt, little coffee. Taste is rich and sweet roasted malt, great cocoa beans, little coffee and finishes with licorice that is in no way overpowering but a wonderful finish that leaves me wanting more. allot of people are not licorice fans but this is so well intrgrated into this brew i think anyone would enjoy it. The body is full and in no way thin. Allot of other stouts out there pack plenty of flavor but lack in feeling on the palate. bells got it all good in this brew, glad i found it being as no one stocks it in tallahassee yet. Hammster (187), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Oct 14, 2007 Bottle. Poured black with a very dark head--this is thicker and darker than Samuel Smith Imperial. Rich, wonderful aroma--cocoa beans, molasses, and espresso. Flavor is mainly roasted malts. A little dirt and stale coffee too. Finish is powerful roast espresso taste. An amazing stout, amazing. MaltOMeal (642), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Oct 14, 2007 12 oz bottle ..thanks to seaoflament. This pours a dark brown, almost black, with a thin beige head that dissipates very quickly. Aroma of Chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is of roasty malt, bitter dark chocolate and some hints of coffee. Medium body. Has a strong aftertaste on back of tongue. mcox90 (618), Wilton, USA Oct 13, 2007 I’ve received this from both Acknud and Mcbackus in differant trades. Thanks to both Bill and Matt. 12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep, almost black, brown with a small tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts, coffee, and licorice. Mouthfeel is creamy and a bit on the heavy side. At first the taste is of roasted malts, but as the beer warms a coffee flavor becomes more dominant. Also, undercurrents of licorice. The only negative thing I will say about this beer is it left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth. This was a great brew from Bells. I can’t wait to get my hands on some Expedition, hint. BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Oct 11, 2007 Updated: Mar 23, 2009Bottle thanks to drewbeerme. Poured a deep brown (black) color with a slight tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, and smoke. Smooth chocolate entry leads to a deep roasted coffee flavor with nice smokey notes. One of the few beers I have had that actually feels creamy on the palate. Really easy drinking. Thanks Drew. dkachur (2319), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Oct 10, 2007 Updated: Apr 12, 2008Bottle. Pours nearly completely black with a brown, thin head, Smoky aroma, taste of anise and coffee. Fine product, but not quite 99th percentile. 7/4/7/3/15/3.6
