jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Sep 27, 2007 12oz bottle-pours a foamy brown head and black color. Aroma is dark malt-licorice, dark fruit-cherry/sweet, roasty. Looking forward to this as usually not my style. Taste is burnt coffee, some sweetness, licorice, acidic from hops, oak/wood, dark malt, chalky. 90 degrees from aroma. bonbright7 (173), Bellport, New York, USA Sep 27, 2007 Bottle/Trade Prize. The aroma of cocoa and coffee was out done by an amazing taste as if I had made moca-java coffee with less water than required. Possibly the heaviest beer I have tasted. I wonder what the tap version is like. Teek (5), USA does not count Sep 26, 2007 Pours black, brown head. Very strong aroma and taste. Tastes of coffee and chocolate with a long lasting aftertaste. One of my favorites. luv2brew (177), Chesterfield, Virginia, USA Sep 22, 2007 Good sweet nose with a mild chocolaty aroma. The head is dark brown but fades very fast. This beer has a big taste with a lot of bitter chocolate in it. I also detect some piney hops at the end.
There’s alot going in this one, with some coffee aftertaste in there. This is indeed up there with the best.
truebluehes (104), Tipton, Iowa, USA Sep 19, 2007 Black beer with no head. Aroma is full of coffee and bitter chocolate. Flavor is a sweetish, bitter coffee and chocolate with a touch of smoke. Excellent beer. Not quite as thick and heavy as the Expedition. faroeviking (6024), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands Sep 14, 2007 Bottle. Pours a pitch black colour with a big rocky and creamy dark brown long lasting head leaving a very nice lacing. Soft aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and liquorice. Good creamish mouthfeel. The flavour has a soft roasty maltiness with good chocolate, liquorice, bitter hops and soft smokiness. Long roasty bitter chocolate finish. Great brew indeed! bp (451), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 12, 2007 Bottle: pours a dark black with a thin but lasting head, aroma of chocolate and malt, taste is very malty along with some toffee flavor, smooth somewhat creamy mouthfeel. I haven’t had a plain old stout in a while. Glad I tried this one. thoramel (39), USA Sep 12, 2007 On tap at the hops of fun festival in Mackinaw City, MI. A good way to start the festival. I’ve always liked Bell’s line of stouts and this no exception. Cocoa and coffee with a good malty flavor. I will be looking for this in my local store.
