This is a full-bodied stout with plenty of roast flavor as well as hints of molasses and chocolate. Ridiculous amounts of black and caramel malts make this stout smooth, creamy, and utterly opaque.

12 oz bottle from a trade with friends Sean and Amber. English pint shows a deep black color. Thin tan head not much in the way retention. Taste is burnt chocolate malt along with caramel and some coffee. On the backend of the sip a bit of lactose sweetness comes through. Bitter coffee notes. Medium body and nearly a flat carbonation feel on the tongue. Something tells me that this bottle may have been a touch past its prime. And no date code anywhere on the bottle so, itís hard to really know. With that being said, I taste what flavors are here and itís still rather tasty.

Bottle at home while visiting Jacksonville. Pours dark brown/black. Lovely coffee choc aroma with light grass. Medium body, light carbonation. Dry bitter coffee and choc, a hint of milk choc sweetness, woody dryness... I like the dry bitterness. Tasty enough. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle from Wegmans, West Seneca, NY. An inky black pour with a tawny gleam, and an almost non-existent tan head; rich earthy aroma with traces of coffee grounds and licorice; a milky texture with a soft and bitter taste with lots of burnt malts and molasses; and a dry, satisfying finish with some lingering biscuit. A very moreish stout.

Pours a deep black with khaki colored head. Coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, and some nice molasses notes on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with some sweetness, more molasses and chocolate.

Brilliantly black with coffee colored head. Aroma of deeply toasted malts bringing out the aroma of oatmeal and coffee with a hint of brown sugar and noticeable but not powerful hops. Rich with a brilliant toasted oat character and slight bitterness flushed by slightly above average effervescence. A great showing and definitely a pleasant stout that doesn't stick too closely to the formulaic type by throwing us a bit of bitterness ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very good, and now I am really looking forward to the expedition stout. This was nice not being too alcoholic. Roasted, creamy, caramel and malts.

Bottle dated September 2014. Deep brown with a thin ring of a head. Chocolate malt nose with fainter roast, slightly inky with stewed plum and grape jelly fruitiness. Medium body and effervescent, slightly sweet approach turning more carbonic to a watery, moderately-hopped astringent roast finish. Nicely minerally and chocolaty and the flavor balance and acidity is pleasant but the malt seems simple.

I really enjoyed Bellís Expedition Stout and thought that this would also be good. I was disappointed. It looks and pours like a nice stout but not much aroma. The first thing I noticed was it hit my taste buds on the tip of my tongue then seemed to disappear. I didnít really notice any licorice flavor or much of any flavor for that matter. I let it warm up a bit and took a good sip to savor the flavor but had the same reaction. Not what I expected from this type of beer. My daughter didnít even want to finish her glass.
