3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 brownalegirl (199) - Fountain, USA - JUL 25, 2003
Grotesquely rich - the malt keeps going and going. I like the ricnhess and I'm annoyed by the astringent rise of hops and burnt sugar edges that keep me from enjoying it fully. But it's a great beer!

Pours dark black with a thick mocha head. Aroma of dark chocolate, light licorice and bitter hops. Taste follows with licorice subdued. A little light on the mouthfeel but pretty taste. I hate licorice but I like this beer. All the flavors meld together to form a pretty good beer.

35,5 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 12.03.2011
Aroma has cocoa, some coffee and roasted malt. Flavour is slightly sweet with floury cocoa powder, some licorice and hints of coffee. Brilliant stuff for this ABV.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 AWISLguy (323) - Wisconsin, USA - MAY 18, 2012
Bottle from Breeze Thru. Pours a thick cola brownish-black with a nice tan head and great lacing. Aroma has chocolate and coffee, with some meat smoke and a bit of dark fruit. Taste has bittersweet bakers chocolate, roasted-to-burnt malts, lactose, molasses, meat juice. Some definite bitter strength throughout (coffee grounds?). It finishes bitter with some underlying sweetness, and with some length. Solid strong stout, nothing flashy. I do not remember why I missed this one when making my way through all the stouts on the right side of the chalkboard at the Eccentric Cafe in October, but glad to have it now.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 clong83 (277) - San Diego, California, USA - MAY 17, 2012
Smooth and mild. Chocolate and caramel notes, not overpowering. A subtle stout, but not unpleasant in any way. Not sure I can agree with a 100% rating, but certainly a very good offering.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 michaelinwa (204) - Bothell, Washington, USA - MAY 16, 2012
Pours black with a small, brief head. Aroma is light, sweet roasted malt. Taste is subtle with slightly sweet and roast grain. No licorice flavor detected, but there is a cetain quality that might come from that ingredient. Has a surprising, lasting bitter finish but by no means overwhelming. It’s a good stout, but not particularly stand out.
4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Mdsurveyor (36) - Bel Air, Maryland, USA - MAY 9, 2012
The pour is a very dark brown with a creamy brown head and substantial lacing. The scent is chocolate and a sweet roasted note. The taste is complex, with the roast and chocolate up front, a hint of licorice, in the middle, and a bitter finish at the end. An excellent stout.

Bottle. Pours a deep jet-black with decent head retention. Decent body, lots of medium-dry roasty goodness and a lingering bitterness (burnt?) to finish. Supposedly has licorice, but I couldn’t detect any. Tasted really good with chocolate cake.

Subtle aromas. Pours thin and black with a nice big head. Complex flavors of chocolate and roastiness. Nice bitter after taste in the mouth. Smooth and creamy and very yummy. Great stout.

Pours a deep oil-like black with a large foamy tan head on top. Retention is perfect, leaving with it beautiful lacing rings. Smells average for a stout. Some chocolate, roasted malts, slight coffee scent to it.
This tastes pretty good for a sweet stout. Again, the tastes mirror the scents pretty well as I’m tasting dark chocolate, coffee, nuts, and some wine-like flavor. Mouthfeel is a little weak. Slightly watery. It looks thick, but goes down a little thin. All in all, not bad. Give it a try.

Smells great, nice roasted malts with hints of licorice and molasses. Dark and creamy and utterly delicious. One of the best stouts on the market.
