Pours near opaque only letting a slight amount of light to pass through this black strap molasses-like medium, with a small and bubbly frothy tan head, mostly diminishing to a floating film. Fragrant fruit (grape, apple) jumps out of the glass first and leads the way for some extremely aromatic dark coffee, espresso chocolate malt, faint smokiness of dark roasted malt, caramel notes with yeast (leather) on the nose. Dark bitter coffee and chocolate, biting like your wake-me-up espresso, oh this would make a great morning brew, modetately bitter lasting flavor with some sour leathery yeast notes. Dark and full bodied, lightly fizzy and velvety palate. TomDecapolis (3222), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 10, 2006 Batch 7210. Pours a dark black with just a slight hint of ruby red coming through if held to light. Head was tan and foamy and left some lacing and sustained. Aroma of milk chocolate, some roast, cherry, vanilla and coffee. Flavor of chocolate, light coffee, toffee, nuts and I was getting a light hint of metallic at the end. This is the best "basic" stout I have had in a while. Typically the Imperial Stouts tend to get my attention, but this one is right up there with the Imperials. What a great beer. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 6, 2004 Big, phat bubbles sit on top of this more like an imperial stout. Bitter chocolate and coffe taste followed by an alcoholic tinny taste. hotstuff (3183), Indiana, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 6, 2003 This stout poured a long-lasting small creamy tan head with fine-small bubbles. The lacing was fair on the sides of my glass. It had a chocolate aroma in my opinion. The taste of this stout was smooth and creamy and it had a good strong coffee flavor to it. All in all this is a good stout! TheBeerGod (3177), Newport News, Virginia, USA

Pours almost black but with a brown hue that is noticeable around the edges. Small brown head. Nose is lightly bittered with coffee, choclate, and a seemingly oatmeal note. Very coffee like taste. Some sweetened malt notes and cocoa. Oily and bitter mouthfeel. Some bittering elements during the finish also. Good beer! PorterPounder (3148), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Original 3.7 Minnetonka, Mn - MGM Liquors - 12 oz bottle. Dark brown, cola-like pour with a decently thick mocha colored head. Good coffee aroma, with some back end sweet fruity accents. Flavor has some chocolate notes, good roastiness and some sweet cherries in the back end - trailing bit of licorice and good bitterness throughout. Very dry finish. Solid stout. Opaque black color with a tight light brown head that showed some lastinf power and laced the glass. Smells ofrich chocolate cake and vanilla cream. Slightly sweet on the tongue with a lasting roasty bitterness. Creamy, full bodied mouth feel with dark chocolate, molasses, vanilla, and coffee flavors. Yum.
