Beautiful notes of coffee and chocolate. Some smoked notes as well like soft bacon. Meat remains on the flavor. Interesting taste. Finish retains a smoky feeling. Some amounts of bitter coffee. A good stout that aged for several years before we enjoyed it. 17thfloor (1519), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Fantastic fresh aroma of bakers chocolate, vanilla, coffee beans, and roast. Yummy flavor, like Expedition light. Notes of coffee, roast, chocolate and oatmeal like sweetness. Not too bitter, not too sweet, but just right. Very easy drinking stout that isn’t too light like sooo many regular stouts.
[7.6.09 - batch 8606] still drinking fine 2 days from a year old... fantastic! DSG (1515), Tel Aviv, Israel

Black-colored with a big bubbly beige to light brown head that falls slowly. Aroma of roasted malt, some coffee, some smokiness and licorice. Sweet roasty flavor with coffee, some fruit hints, licorice notes and a bit of espresso. Finishes bitter. Medium to full-bodied. Very nice. jasonp (1514), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | May 20, 2004 Updated: Sep 29, 2007Pours an opaque black/brown with a thick, dense, creamy light brown head - perfect. Beautiful roasty, mocha aroma which picks up a subtle smokiness and malted milk balls as it warms. The flavor is a lovely mix of roasted malt, dark toasted grain/caramel, coffee, dark chocolate, mocha and hops. Thick and rich with that perfect level of sweetness and prominent, but not astringent roastiness. Mouthfeel is very full, round and ridiculously velvety/creamy - perfect. Great head retention, thick lacing left on the glass. In my opinion, this is the best stout money can buy. Why? Because it’s a breath of fresh air against the multitude of weak, clear and painfully boring stouts. Proper appearance, aroma, sweetness, roastiness, hoppiness, mouthfeel- even the artwork and packaging is superior. To top it all off, it’s very drinkable. A total masterpiece. Words cannot express how happy I am that this is now available in the DC area. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 1, 2007 Pours an opaque black color with a dark brown head that quickly dissipates. Burnt/roast and cocoa aromas dominate. The carbonation is not apparent on the palate, and the mouthfeel is medium-bodied. Taste is smooth throughout - roasted flavors are assertive in the finish and there is a little sweet/spice turn in the finish that may be the brewer’s licorice. For a straight-up stout, this is an excellent beer and if it comes to FL, it’ll be a constant presence in the fridge. redlight (1511), Winter Park, Florida, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 12, 2007 This might be the darkest beer I have ever seen. It also has a small and unusually dark head that lasts a minute or two. Aroma is malty and roast. Flavor is delightful. Everything you love about a stout is here. Plenty of roasted malt, coffee, caramel, chocolate, dark fruit, etc. This is truly a premium beer and it can’t get much better!
