Aroma of burnt chocolate, caramel, and yeast (bottle conditioned). The beers sweetness is amazingly balanced with the bitterness of thehops and the flavors of the malts. Finishes with the bitterenss of baking chocolate. Thanks to hopsrus I had this great beer from Bell's... DankbrewedDank (162), East Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 18, 2003 Black pour with ruby edges, nice creamy dark tan head and islandic lacing. Aroma is highly roasted with a coffee/chocolate slap and a hoppy kiss on the cheek. Lightly sweet flavor with a terrific complex aftertaste with caramel, molasses and roasted coffee. Finishes perfectly balanced. This was a great stout, well lived up to the name. Thanks Ed! willblake (2191), Belcamp, Maryland, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 27, 2004 10.27.04 12oz bottle compliments of jsquire. Black licorice color with dark brown, lasting head. Aromas of hot cocoa with cream, hazelnut, slight coffee roastiness. The palate is quite thick and creamy, not at all sticky like an oatmeal stout might be. Espresso flavors with double shot of hazelnut sweetness, vanilla, woody, too. As usual, an outstanding stout from Bells/Kalamazoo. The aftertaste is sublime. Sorry to see it go at the end of the glass. Gromit (464), Port Orchard, Washington, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 26, 2004 Very well done stout.
Pours pitch black with a little bit of head that quickly goes away leaving no lace.
Smell hit me as a really earthy smelling coffee, but a bit sweeter.
Taste is really good. Coffee, molasses, a hint of chocolate, some grain. It could be just a bit stronger though. Funny, but it almost tastes watered down.
Mouthfeel is *definatly* not watered down. Very thick and creamy with a great mineral feel.

Pours a very dark brown-black with a nice size foamy light-brown head. You can’t see through this puppy. The aroma, well it’s just as good as a Stout can get isn’t it? Roasted malt with chocolate, hops, smoke, coffee and caramel -- just awesome. The flavour is no slouch either: a big roasty caramel malt flavour with chocolate and a nice bitter aftertaste. Thick and creamy just as a great Stout should be. Spectacular, well done Bells! WeissGuy (10), Eugene, Oregon, USA
