Pours midnight black. No light works it’s way through this ’black hole in a bottle’ even when the pint is held up to a strong halogen bulb. Large, frothy, deeply tanned head. Mostly, but not fully diminishing with great lacing.
The flavor is of unsweetened chocolate, molasses, Carribean coffee and alcohol up front. Perfectly balanced and acidic with a hint of allspice on the backside.
Full-bodied with lively carbonation and a watery/silky mouthfeel. Long, dry, acetic finish. Cocoa and coffee at the wee end.
Another excellent stout from an excellent brewery. jpknight22 (171), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA

Traces of burnt caramel all over the place with a well defined bitterness. Good stuff. BBB63 (4283), La Porte, Indiana, USA

Smoky burnt malt aroma with hints of berry/plum fruits, wood, espresso, bittersweet chocolate, and interesting spice. Opens up with a large smoky and bitter taste, some malty chocolate sweetness appears midway through the swallow, and the finish is twangy and dry. Sweet stout my arse! Maybe we have a new substyle: smoked stout? I know one thing for sure, this would be a nice brew to have with smoked salmon. The palate is interesting as well, Creamy yet dry, fizzy yet soft, seemed to change each and every time I took a gulp. Overall, I found this to be a very good stout (does Bells really make a bad one?) but not quite to same level as some siblings. Syd (911), Waconia, Minnesota, USA

The aroma is lactic, very roasted, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet, roasted, lactic, sort of like a beer milk shake or a coffee cooler. The palate is as thick as Canada Balsam Fir sap. Overall, very nice. walleye (882), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
