This is a full-bodied stout with plenty of roast flavor as well as hints of molasses and chocolate. Ridiculous amounts of black and caramel malts make this stout smooth, creamy, and utterly opaque.

Aroma - Rich burnt malt. Appearance - Can't see through black with a nice thick brown head. Flavor - Nice rich burnt malt character with a noticeable amount of bittering hops. Its a smooth stout, but not as smooth as their porter. The acidic finish is a bit distracting in an otherwise very good beer.

Classic American dry stout from a brewery perhaps most renowned for its stouts, with dense, moussy, irregular, yellowish beige head and opaque black colour, only revealing its true deep mahogany hue in the end. Very roasted aroma giving off impressions of espresso and coffee grounds, salmiac, charcoal, iron but in a natural, ’blood’ kind of way, burnt wood, toasted bread, bitter chocolate, roasted meat, caramel candy, fried plantain, brambleberries, roasted peanuts. Refinedly sweetish onset of candied cherries and raisins countered by a deep, soft sourishness, very creamy and oily body with appropriately soft carbonation, slick caramelly and toasted maltiness evolving into a big, distinctly coffeeish roasted bitterness lining the mouth cavity, much more coffee-like than dark chocolate-like in this case, with the basic sourishness continuing and a meaty umami flavour adding complexity; peppery hops add further drought in the finish, along with a glow of warming alcohol, which in all stays well hidden (as it ought to be in a 6% ABV beer). Charming, heart-warming, exceptionally well-made, rounded, elegant and deeply roasted: this is a stout of technical perfection and great finesse. Righteously famous.

Tasted from bottle. Pours black with a brown head. Nice roasted malt aroma with chocolate and coffee notes along with some oats. Taste is moderately bitter and dry on the mouth. Flavors of chocolate, vanilla, coffee, biscuits, caramel. Overall a very tasty stout, definitely one of the best I've had. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sweet chocolate nose. Smooth drinking. Well balanced sweet/dry/bitter, listed in order of prominence. Mostly chocolate taste with a strong hint of fruit and hops, almost want to call it grape. Deep brown pour with dark brown head, nice color but weak foam. Agitation brings out bitterness, better in the bottle. Nutty aftertaste.

Really delicous stout. Has a real dark chocolate taste. Looks perfect once poured with a nice head and good nose.

12oz bottle. 2/26/15 package date (5mths old). Appearance: Black, opaque, thick, creamy brown head. Aroma: Roasty malt, dark cocoa, hint of vanilla Taste: Starts with sweet rich maltiness, rich roast and coffee, and some dark cocoa. Moderately strong bitterness. Very smooth flavor considering the heavy roast. Mouthfeel: Medium body and moderate carbonation. Finish: Lingering bitterness and roast. Very dry. Overall: Good American style stout. Roasted malt flavor is dominant, but smooth instead of harsh. Complimented by some sweet base malt and chocolate. Drinkable considering the richness and alcohol.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured black, certainly heavy, tan head and a bit of lacing on the glass. Aroma of coffee and roasted malts and some hints of chocolate. Taste is also coffee and some roasted malts and chocolate finish. Very good stout, quite enjoyable.
