4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Jjg226 (19) - Staten Island, New York, USA - MAY 14, 2013
Bottle dated 1/24/13. Poured into tulip. Served at 50 degrees.
Appearance - inky black with light brown head that stick around for a while.
Aroma - burnt malt, espresso, and dark chocolate dominate. Faint whiff of anise.
Taste - initial sweetness gives way to nice, ever so slightly bitter finish. Flavors follow aroma with slightly more licorice than aroma.
Mouthfeel - medium body with soft carbonation.
Overall - one could almost call this a session stout at 6% ABV, I now understand why this American stout is so talked about. Will definitely visit again.

Bottle. Black as oil. Smooth malty taste and on palate. Very nice for such a dark, flavorful beer. Minimal aroma.

Sweet and delicious. Light on the tongue, smooth in the mouth, with a sensational, flavor burst crescendo.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 fiveacestx (351) - Texas, USA - MAY 10, 2013
Bottle - Jet black with a medium cola/chocolate head. Didn’t detect licorice as advertised (not a problem though). Has a mocha chocolate and a dark roasted coffee taste. Smoky on the back end. Decent.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jrodooo5 (500) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - MAY 7, 2013
Opaque pour indeed w/ a nice tan head that leaves a tiny ring of lacing. Aroma is fairly malty but nothing really stands out. The mouthfeel is medium bodied but really creamy. Taste is a little roasty but just screams stout. Nothing too fancy going on here - just an excellent version of the style.
4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 fidemaster (216) - Naperville, Illinois, USA - MAY 4, 2013
Has a pleasant Aroma of chocolate. It is deep black. This has a great combination of chocolate, caramel, and malt. It really balances sweet, and creamy really well. This is a top stout.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 DeliveryDriver (103) - Illinois, USA - APR 30, 2013
Pours black with a big, creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly into a cap. Had aromas of roasted coffee, milk chocolate, and vanilla. Nice and sweet going down, and a nice vanilla and milk chocolate aftertaste. Had a real thin, almost watery feel in the mouth. I like it better when they double the malt and add five times the hops.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Blairgus (1753) - California, USA - APR 29, 2013
29 Apr 2013, bottle. black. nose is oatmeal malt and astringent coffee beans. med body, slightly oily, faintly fizzy. has notes of cigar/tobacco/ash tray, burnt coffee grains. pretty great all around stout.
4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Tortman18 (81) - Batavia, Illinois, USA - APR 28, 2013
Color is almost pure black. Very thick and viscous. Minimal cap of chocolatey head that leaves a thin ring. Nose is complex. Dark fruit, chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, licorice and a slight bit of alcohol. Mouth is very much the same. A lot of coffee/espresso and chocolate up front, with a little bit of molasses and caramel and a nice, boozy finish. I was told this beer was mediocre at best, I strongly disagree!
