Nicely balanced, Bellís Lager Beer focuses on the flavors developed in the brew house, matching a crisp bitterness & distinctive herbal hop aromas to a simple yet firm malt backbone. Following in the tradition of Bohemian-style pilsners, this beer spends a full six weeks maturing in the fermentation vessels. This extended conditioning period refines the overall flavor, highlighting the contributions of the malts & hops.

I was hoping for a lot more from bells. clear yellow disappearing white head. aroma.... light yellow lager aroma....corn with a light touch of hops. flavor is balanced but just not very good. sweet toasted almost bready notes with a good dose of bitter hops. bitter dry finish. light body lively....kinda fizzy carbonation. its just not very good.

Pale golden color, nice carbonation. Smells a little skunky, typical of any other pilsner I can think of. Taste also much of the same as any pilsner, a nice sweet finish, nice carbonation on the tonuge. Very easy to get this one down.

Bottle - Bells Lager. Clear golden body with a small white head. Sweet honey and sugar aroma. Sweet honey flavor with some dry graininess and a bit of grassy hops.

Pours clear light amber with a large head. Retention is good, and leaves spare lacing. Aroma of bitter grass hops and pale malt. Assertive taste for a pilsener; fruity (apricot?), sweet malts and an everpresent bitterness. Light body. Lively carbonation. Crisp finish.

Bellís Lager Beer. Light yellow color with small white head, big bubbles and some lacing. Aroma was hoppy and a little sour. Flavor was nice, slight hop flavor and somewhat sweet.

UPDATED: APR 24, 2010 As íBellís Beerí, late March 2007: Bottle. Some light grassy, floral hops in the sweet nose. Saaz, how Iíve missed you! Clear body, on the yellow side of golden, with a soapy, fizzy white head. Refreshing bittersweet taste, thin but not watery body. Light citrus and bready malt. Creamy feel with a lightly floral, lightly grassy aftertaste. Nice lil summer quencher. [6-3-7-3-12=3.2]

Draught at Finchís under the name íLager of the Lakes.í Transparent dark golden with firm carb and a very short white head. Big pale malt presence in the nose and obvious noble hops - golden sunshower. Nice and soft taste lays on the palate, gentle nobility (Saaz), sort of chalkiness that overwhelms the malt and hops but which allows the breadiness through at the end. Fun enough for the summer, dry and well made, a great lager. [7-3-7-3-13=3.3]

bottle - Pours pale gold and clear with a fingerís width head. The aroma is mild hops. The flavor is also mild though well balanced with hops to accent the sweetness. Medium bodied and easy drinking, this is okay for a session brew.

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2008 I thought the art of making a pretty decent pislner was lost in this country, but hereís proof that at least one brewer knows what this style is supposed to be like. Clear gold body, with a quickly dissipating head. Some lacing, and that always pleases me. The aroma is very inviting -- both malts and hops, but a bit more of the latter. The flavor follows the aroma, and the aftertaste is slightly on the bitter side (just the way a pilsner should be). The carbonation is good, but I feel it could be a little more aggressive. If youíre looking for a decent pilsner, I definitely recommend trying this one.
