Nicely balanced, Bellís Lager Beer focuses on the flavors developed in the brew house, matching a crisp bitterness & distinctive herbal hop aromas to a simple yet firm malt backbone. Following in the tradition of Bohemian-style pilsners, this beer spends a full six weeks maturing in the fermentation vessels. This extended conditioning period refines the overall flavor, highlighting the contributions of the malts & hops.

Bottle to pint, bottled under the name "Lager of the Lakes." Clear golden pour with white head. Classic pilsner scent, however not offensive like many of its peers. Taste is grainy, crisp, not bad for a lager but certainly nothing special.

Draft. Pours a golden yellow color. Aroma and taste are light malty sweetness and some citrus.

Itís kind of funny, actually, when established, credible craft breweries put out a pale lager for no apparent reason. Some breweries make a traditional, to-spec pilsner, but beers like Bellís Lager Beer (aka ďLager of the LakesĒ) are just simple pale lagers with a nicer malt and hop variety than the adjunct macro versions. While this brew may not exactly redefine the style, it is a tasty and quaffable beer for what it is.

I poured a 12oz bottle into a pilsner glass. It bottled on 5/11/15 and cost $2.09 ($0.17 per ounce).

Appearance: Yellowish/white gold hue with very clear body. Spastic carbonation is always visible. Pours to an average-sized, white, foamy head which retains and laces well.

Smell: Fairly generic lager aroma. Only minor flowery hop notes and pilsner malt.

Taste: You donít have to have frills to make a good pale lager, all you really need is decent taste and thatís what you get here. Thereís not a lot going on in this palette, but whatís here is pretty nice. Familiar pilsner malt base with only the faintest trace of specialty malt (not quite wheat, not quite rye). It has that familiar lager character all fizzy yellow brews tend to have, though I doubt thereís any corn or rice here Ė I certainly donít taste any. The second half is nice as genuine hop flavor and minor bitterness emerges and creates for slight crackery flavor. Mostly dry with a touch of lemonpeel and perhaps a hint of black pepper Ė but nowhere near as strong as those of traditional Old World pils. I would not consider Bellís Lager Beer to be bland or mild, though itís not exactly the most robust or complex lager, either.

Drinkability: This is exactly the kind of delivery you want from a beer of this type: light, but effervescent; flavorful but clean. I enjoyed the high carbonation and appreciated its relative restraint. Thereís no challenge to drinking it quickly at all. Refreshing while in the mouth and a dry, slightly pasty aftertaste. At 5% ABV Iíd probably prefer just a tad more taste for the weight, though I could definitely consider this sessionable. Bellís would be wise to put this beer in cans.

Pours a clear pale yellow color with no head. Aroma of grain and lemon with bread, grass and lemon flavor. Decent for a lager.

Bright gold appearance with an average size white head and a fair amount of lacing. Subtle aroma of grain and straw. Bready, moderately sweet malt flavor with a hint of spicy hops. Medium bodied, decently carbonated mouthfeel leading to a short lived finish.

Sampled at the W&C Beer Fest 2015. It poured a pale yellow color with a white head. The aroma was bread and some yeast. The taste was similar to the aroma with a touch of grass, some bitterness with a dry finish. It had a thin body.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 8/87/2015. Pours slightly hazy golden straw color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, toasted bread, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. A bit too fruity/estery in the nose, but not overwhelming. Taste of lemon, cracker, toasted bread, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Moderate amount of herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, cracker, bread, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of pale malt and earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors with minimal yeast ester notes noticed in the flavor. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth crisp, and lightly sticky/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish as expected of 5%. Overall this is a very nice Dortmunder lager style. All around good balance and robustness of pale malt and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Sweet corn/grains on the nose. Thin golden yellow in color. Sweetness up front is full. Nice peppery finish on the back end. Nice balance and malty mouthfeel is delightful.
