The first in a three-part series of interpretations on the French Biere de Garde style, Le Batteur leads with a distinctive yeast aromatic character mixed with light bready notes. Noticeably dry, the finish is crisp with a mild, refreshing acidity. The French term for a drummer, Le Batteur takes its name from a component of a classic jazz trio.

On draft at Roll Out the Barrel 2016. The pour is a cloudy golden yellow with a thin white head and a couple spots of lace. The aroma is nicely tart and sour with a bright light fruit to it. There is a tart Brett funkiness, but it’s well balanced. I like it. The flavor is a little more relaxed. It’s nice and fruity. There is a light tartness and a good balance here. There is a light barnyard funk and a decent farmhouse quality to it. The mouth feel is light and crisp with a brighter carbonation and a lingeringly sweet and tart finish. It’s interesting.

10 oz sample at Kickback in Jax...Aroma has hints of lacto and Brett. Light sweet caramel, too. Moderately hazy honey orange color with a medium tan head. Starts with a tart, lacto based flavor. Has a little smoke and milk flavor in the middle. Finishes with cereal grains. Lots of malt, balanced by some tart. Unique and good.

Very nice for a slightly sour beer but not much like Biere de Garde. Maroon pour with decent head and lacing. Light tangy finish. Nice stuff. Tap at Snally.

On tap at Suttree’s. Very murky orange, with a thin ring of foam. Smells really juicy and tart, with citrus, wine and funk. It’s pretty tart, actually, with a lot of citrus, plus a good deal of white wine. Lots of orange juice, as well.

On Draught,
Pours a pale yellow, very hazy with a nice head & good lacing on the glass.

The aroma is subtle but very nice, citric and lightly funky with a nice bready character. Light sweet smelling, chill.

The flavor is tart and has some light lemon zest, it’s got a bready malt thing and a big yeastiness. Very dry, pleasantly sour, coolio.

Tap at Bells. Hazy light golden with small white head made up of tiny bubbles. Gooseberries, some hay and funk, rubber, sweet malts, lemon, pineapple, funky yeast. Medium sour and under medium sweet. Medium bodied with a bit fizzy carbonation.

I didn't take any extra notes when I tried this beer for the first time but I'm gonna try it again and update my comments. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a slightly hazy, very pale golden yellow color with a half finger white head that quickly settles into a thin, lasting ring. Sporadic spotty lacing left behind. Slightly bland aroma with bready yeast, light fruit and faint floral hops. There’s a touch of grassy hops along with some apple, pear, bread and biscuit. Fuller bodied than expected and a lot more interesting than the nose suggests. Subtle crisp hop bite up front with some grassy saaz flavor along with some hay, subtle earthy resins and pine needle. This is followed by bready yeast and sweet light fruit notes, notably apple and pear. Not terribly complex but well balanced, crisp, refreshing and decently drinkable. Not as good as some of the better French/Belgian examples of the style, but this is pretty nice interpretation with an American hop twist.
