Tap. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, caramel, some sweetness. Black pour, tan head with average retention/lacing. Flavor is pleasant chocolate notes and sweetness, some coffee and roast malts, minimal bitterness. Creamy and slightly sweet finish. Medium/full body, medium carbonation. An enjoyable, solid brew.

Draft to taster. Looks Good; pitch black with thin lacing and little coronation. Smells good too; sweet, creamy, and malty. Tastes pretty good, but not as smooth as it smells. Mouthfeel is average. Good, not great.

Draft at Bells in Kzoo. Somewhat Faint, dry aroma. Fully opaque brown, dark tan head. Sweeter than the aroma would suggest. Not as good as Three Floyd’s Moloko milk stout. Pretty solid but should be a little smoother in the finish. Dry finish.

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2012 À la pompe au pub: Des notes rôti, chocolaté avec une présence en bouche velouté. Excellente entrée en scène pour Bell’s dans mon ’’sampler’’.

Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours near black with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has some sweet chocolate with dark grains and light roasted malts. Flavor is similar with milk chocolate and dark grains with a hint of earthy roasted malts in the finish.

Dark and all about roasted malt. Sticky sweet, thin head, very tasty beer. Nutty and rich.

TheAlum (5205) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - FEB 15, 2012
Sampler pour on tap at the brewpub (Kalamazoo, MI). Pours a darker brownish pour, dark near opaque body with some ruby edges and bottom. A frothy offwhite head near tan head sits atop and dies to a decent ring, laces small. Aromas are milk chocolate, lactose sugars, some gentle roast and toast, some caramel, cocoa. Mellow sweetness pervades. Initial is medium bodied, offering toast and sweet lactose sugars up front, healthy milk chocolate influence, with more cocoa, caramel, and toffee. Some sweetened coffee, coffee and cream with a designer addition elements. Pleasant, a bit sweet, with a mellow sweeter gentle roasty finish. Simple yet enjoyable. Flavors are on for what it aspires to be.

Dogbrick (7253) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - FEB 12, 2012
Sample at the brewpub. This Stout pours flat black with a medium light beige head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Short stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, mild hops and chocolate. Medium, creamy body with flavors of mild coffee, sweet malt and chocolate. The finish is roasty with a chocolate aftertaste. Solid all around.
